They're not as dark as the picture is making them out. That was a pic from my phone. If I put a flash to it and got some lighting they'd be a LOT brighter.

RE: Graded Wall Display -- My Attempt
So here's some more info.
Case closed (glass shut in other words): Case open. I think this is how I'm going to make ALL cases at this point. Makes for VERY easy access and looks good doing it. Close up of the solid corner miter joints. I'm happy with that new saw for sure. *Edit* Yeah, I know I got some glue squeeze out there on that top piece on the glass. Going to cut it out later. It's just household goop so it should clean up ok.
Really liking your new method with one end being used as the glass holder.
Thread should be renamed from "my attempt" to "my success."

RE: Graded Wall Display -- My Attempt
Boy did I run into a freaking SNAG. These last two cases I made, I used normal slabs for measurements, and made them tight. Well........I went to take some pics for some advertising purposes, was using the auto and jersey cards for a little 'bling". Well...........four of the six slabs were CONSIDERABLY wider than a slab with a regular old mid 90's card.
Literally, on a pair of digital calipers (I'm a mechanic, keep those handy), a regular card from the mid 90's, EVERYTHING I measured came in at 3.255". But the four slabs that were wider, I had 3.264, 3.268, 3.275, and a horrendous 3.284"!!!!!! Easily enough that they woudn't fit 7 cards. So I did what any sane man would do. Sanded the BGS slabs down to 3.255". They fit now! Just a note to self......23" is the standard width for 7 cards to give room for poor quality control on the slabs. I had these at 2 7/8" for a no slop fit which was perfect......sorta. I'm not worried about it because these two cases are staying with me. But lesson learned for the future. I do appreciate the compliments guys. I'm a perfectionist at heart and while I don't view woodworking as something where perfection can be attained, I'm extremely happy with what I've come up with. I've tossed them on ebay, no hits yet, but hopefully I start getting some. Otherwise I'm going to have to buy a LOT more graded cards to fill them. |
