Latest on the NYG's. I can't believe DJ Ware got cut! Douglas to the practice squad, Greg Jones cut, and Tyler Sash suspended......But Jernigan made it.

Some may be surprised to see D.J. Ware being cut, but the Giants have a youth movement underway in the backfield and his skill set was becoming redundant. Da'Rel Scott and Andre Brown each improved on special teams, while Scott became a better blocker in the backfield. And given Scott's ability to serve as a kick returner, off returner and catch passes out of the backfield, Ware was no longer unique for the Giants.

Notable cuts: RB D.J. Ware (7th year, Georgia) -- The first injury the Giants suffer in the backfield will be Ware's ticket back to the Giants... WR David Douglas (1st year, Arizona) -- Douglas basically does all the same things that Jerrel Jernigan does, such as playing in the slot and returning punts, so the undrafted rookie was redundant. If he clears waivers, he'll land on the practice squad, but ESPNDallas reported that the Cowboys are interested. They play the Giants in the season opener next Wednesday… LB Greg Jones (2nd year, Michigan State) -- He was briefly the start at MLB last year but quickly lost his spot and began 2012 at SLB, which was a sign of things to come … DT Marcus Thomas (7th year, Florida) -- If the Giants' injury woes continue at DT, expect Thomas to be back in East Rutherford… WR Isaiah Stanback (6th year, Washington) -- Without any remaining practice-squad eligibility, Stanback had nowhere else to go. The Giants couldn't keep more than six WRs… DT Dwayne Hendricks (2nd year, Miami) -- A favorite of Coughlin's who probably would have had a roster spot if the Giants thought rookie Markus Kuhn would clear waivers … OT Matt McCants (1st year, UAB) The sixth-round pick could find his way to the practice squad. He was always seen as a long-term project, and the preseason didn't do anything to change anyone's mind.

Cut list

RB D.J. Ware (7th year, Georgia, Ware's Twitter account), WR David Douglas (1st year, Arizona, Star-Ledger) LB Greg Jones (2nd year, Michigan State, ESPNNewYork.com), DT Marcus Thomas (7th year, Florida, Thomas' Twitter account), WR Isaiah Stanback (6th year, Washington, Star-Ledger), TE Larry Donnell (1st year, Grambling State, Star-Ledger), LB Jake Musasau (1st year, Georgia State, New York Daily News), DE Craig Marshall (2nd year, South Florida, New York Daily News), DE Matt Broha (1st year, Louisiana Tech, Star-Ledger), WR Dan DePalma (2nd year, West Chester, Star-Ledger), DB/KR Laron Scott (1st year, Georgia Southern, Scott tweeted that he's staying, but seemed to mean he'll be on the practice squad), DT Dwayne Hendricks (2nd year, Miami), ESPNNewYork.com, OT Matt McCants (1st year, UAB, Star-Ledger), OL Selvish Capers (2nd year, West Virginia, New York Daily News).

Other moves: reserve/suspended -- S Tyler Sash (2nd year, 6th round in 2011 draft, suspended four games for violating the league's policy against performance enhancing substances); reserve/injured -- CB Bruce Johnson (4th year, Miami, shoulder injury, Star-Ledger)
