Well Asdrubal is definitely not the best SS in the game this year, that honor belongs to Jose Reyes. I feel like you meant AL though, which I would agree with.
I agree that the voting needs to be changed. I like that the fans have a say in it, but it can be altered.
For example, the preliminary stages of All-Star voting should consist of only MLB Players, Managers/Coaches, and a select group of writers. After that, you take the top 5 candidates from each position(15 for OF) and THEN let the fans vote. That way, guys who have absolutely no reason to even be on the ballot in the first place, arent. That way you dont get Red Sox fans(just an example, it happens with every team) voting for guys like Saltalamacchia and JD Drew, when their vote should be adding to a deserving candidates total. But it also allows the fans to have the final say in who they get to see play.
