Topps changes redemption expirations from two years to TEN years

Topps changes redemption expirations from two years to TEN years

We know redemptions are a pain point for collectors. We’ve been working hard to make progress and we’re excited to make a few announcements…

1. One year ago, we had over 70,000 redemptions owed to collectors. Today, that number is below 10,000.

2. Moving forward, redemptions will now have a 10-year expiration window instead of 2 years. Also, we are backdating this program to all redemption cards where the product year is 2021/22, 2022 or more recent.
(The 10-year expiration window will be true regardless of what expiration date is stated on the card…see example below).

3. Year over year, the amount of redemption cards going into products is down substantially.

We plan to make even more progress in the near future, and we look forward to keeping you updated along the way. ❤️

Just gives them 8 extra years to get stuffed signed. The key take away is you have 10 yrs to redeem it but it's still not guaranteed that you won't wait another 2 years after that. It's an easy way for them and dealers to move older more expensive products.

Example : 2018 Products have Ohtani and Acuna RC redemptions that at this point weren't worth buying at current wax prices but now you have 4 more years to redeem a monster redemption of one of those guys.

A little off the topic, but I have an Acuna/Soto dual auto redemption from PANINI from 2020.  I asked what they can do..got a call from PANINI and they said there were NO cards in inventory to replace $$ to $$..I should wait until the National.  Now both players are active, sign other stuff and I am stuck for 4 years waiting and will probably never get this card worth some $$.  Glad that one signer was not Franco..HA HA..
Redemptions are the COVID of card collecting!!!

That is 100% what this is about (although it appears that the 2018 products are still out of luck - and I presume that even if you entered in redemptions with real Topps on time before Fanatics took over, you are out of luck with anything that was unfulfilled at takeover time) - since Fanatics sells box breaks, they were stuck losing money on a bunch of products with high end redemptions that they couldn't sell - there was also a Bowman U product with expired Stroud redemptions - the price of those boxes went up by 50% immediately after the announcement

There is never any good will for collectors coming from anything that Fanatics does - they only care about making as much money for themselves as possible

It's a good thing.

Hopefuylly that doesn't mean you can wait up to 10 years to receive it.
