I'm obsessed with this, sorry. Here's my hypothesis:
The serial number stamping machine was set to mark the Blue Sapphire's to read ##/50. When it came time to mark the Ruby cards, the operator forgot to change it from ##/50 to ##/25, for at least the first two cards. If that's true, then at least the card misprinted 1/50 is out there along with your card marked 2/50.
From what I understand, the autographers usually sign a few more of each card than the number that is released. When they sign, the cards aren't yet stamped with a number so that they have a few blank leftovers. Then if your card is damaged, you can send it back to Topps to be destroyed and one of the blank cards will be stamped with the serial number of the destroyed card.
So your card could actually be #2/25, or #2/25 could be out there somewhere and your card was meant to be destroyed. So many possibilities! Keep us updated on if you find out anymore!
