Rickey henderson

Rickey henderson
What was he mostly known for? I remember growing up and collecting alot of his cards, but never really knew what he was known for as sad as it sounds. Did he have more of a impact on the game compared to kirby puckett?

RE: Rickey henderson
he is - and there is no argument about this at all - the greatest leadoff hitter of all time. no one even comes close

and i say this without reservation: when you are talking about impacting a game (not culturally like say, jackie robinson, but between the lines), he is top 10 of all time...up there with ted williams, babe ruth, gehrig, cobb, mays etc

in terms of impacting the game, the best in the past 40 years

he does own the all time sb record (as well as a few others)...but the real reason why he was such an iconic player is because of the following assessment:

RE: Rickey henderson
Rickey was my favorite player growing up and I had all his cards up till my shop got robbed and my PC was stolen. A Rickey rally was a great thing He was the greatest lead off hitter to play the game but more importantly he was the greatest base Stealer baseball has ever seen. A piece of the game is missing since he left as there has been no great base stealers any more .130 steals in a season will never been seen again...unless this guy here in cincinnati can be as good in the majors as he has been in the minors I speak of course about billy Hamilton.but even if he steals 130 or more there will never ever be another Rickey Henderson. I always loved how he referred to himself in first person.

Its too bad his ego was 2x the size of the game.... just a dbag of a person off the field. But I remember growing up in the 80's and playing ball you always called what star you though you were, well I was the fast kid so I always got Rickey lol....
