Need advice on storing cards

Need advice on storing cards
Hey guys I need some advice on how to store my cards? What is the best way to store them in your opinion. I have mine in 3 ring binders right now for easy viewing. Also what do you do with all the cards that you have for trade and also all the base cards you can't get rid of......

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

RE: Need advice on storing cards
i'm guessing most people store cards the same way.

All decent singles in penny sleeves, anything half valuable in penny sleeve and toploader, hi end cards in one touch and team bag.

Folders are fine for cheapish cards, i dont put anything hi end in a folder as thats less protection than top loader even.

Singles and low end stuff thats in penny sleeves or toploaders kept in storage box, graded cards kept in graded card storage box.

Hope that helps

RE: Need advice on storing cards
I have most of the cards that are in my PC or valuable in magnetic onetouch holders & teambags.. I do have to find where I can buy bigger teambags, that fit properly. The ones I have don't close, so I put a small piece of scotch tape at the top, so it doesn't fall off. Don't like my holders to be scratched.

Sets & singles are in plastic storage boxes. This makes it easy for you to see which is which, without writing on the boxes. Inserts are all placed together by product, unless they are over, say $30, then I put them in toploaders or magnetic holders.

The holders are placed in cardboard card shoeboxes. This makes my collection look organized. I do have to go back & type up what is in each box & then thinking about using adhesive to stick the printout on the boxes. Don't want my collection to look unorganized or tacky. In case I have to try to sell the entire collection one day.

My older cards are in snap-holders or toploaders & teambags. Sets or singles are in small card storage boxes.. the singles from nicer sets are all in pennysleeves, then cardboard boxes. i.e. 92-93 Hoops, Skybox, Ultra, Finest, UD, SP, SPX when they first came out. I started doing this when Shaq came out. I thought his RC cards were going to be a fortune. I was only 13 back then.

I collected from 1990 to 95-96, briefly from 99-01, then the addiction got to me in April 2007. I actually started collecting in 87, at the age of 7, but didn't know cards were worth money until 1990, when moved & found out what a baseball card shop was.. First card shop I been to was called GrandSlam in Santa Barbara, Ca. A small card shop put them out of business 3 years after I found it. The new shop never had a name, except "card shop" It was about 1/5 the size of the first one I seen. Now, there is one card shop in Santa Barbara & the guy has been trying to sale it for over a year.

Here are a few pics of how I store my cards. enjoy.

holy high end batman!

I go by the same basic principle but on a budget haha. I'll put anything $10 or over in a top loader, then $50+ in a magnetic holder (of which I have just 2 total) I have sets and singles in the leftover 3-ring binders I used when I collected as a kid and the rest in boxes with nicer ones in penny sleeves.
I collect Michael Jordan, Mitch Richmond, and Ohio State players (football and basketball) in OSU gear. I strongly prefer 90's-era cards and use newer cards primarily for trade bait!

RE: Need advice on storing cards
I got rid of all my 9-pocket pages and 3 D-ring binders. Now I got my cards(no high-end) all in soft sleeves. My PC cards are in toploaders, team bags and shoe cardboard storage box or magnetic holders, graded card sleeves and super vault cardboard storage box for graded cards.

RE: Need advice on storing cards
I have a few Dwight Howard, but no autos. I have a bunch of binders. Most recent ones are SPX & SPA sets, without autos. I want to find a 9 pocket holders that have better protection. My old cards are all dusty & some fall out. I used to have a 92-93 UD series 1&2, plus errors.. set in 9 pocket pages, but had to go back & take the Shaq out of it... afraid they would get dinged falling out..

Hey what you need is " graded card bags" they are taller than team bags and fit one touches comfortably.

Thanks.
I bought a bag of them at my LCS, but they are too big horizontal. they don't fit perfect. I've received some of my cards I got online with them. Mostly from overseas. I don't like buying card holders or teambags online, because I am unsure if they fit or what manufacturer I am going to receive. I bought magnetic onetouch holders online, but received a different cheaper manufacturer. Cards didn't fit like they were supposed to. The thickness of the cards worked, but cards moved a lot. Also, some Penny sleeves were too tight. Ruined two cards trying to insert them.

RE: Need advice on storing cards
@jpleazme805 - I was searching the forum for posts on storing cards... came across this one of yours a couple years ago. My Cardboard boxes are filling up so was considering trying to find another way to store them- my Lakers collection is heavy, as I have been using the magnetic one touch holders for all the good autos, and those suckers are heavy!

Do you find the one touch provide enough UV protection? I learned the hard way that regular top loaders do not, and had a ton of autos fade to nothing.
