Favorite card design

RE: Favorite card design
Favorite base: Any Topps Tribute. I also favor 1977 Topps. Not sure why, but I have always been drawn to the authentic yet simple design.

Favorite insert: has to be the 1998 Leaf State Representatives. Love the foil, with the oversize shape of the state in the background. This too, was how I learned my state shapes Wink
Currently collecting Mike Trout, Bo Jackson and Al Kaline.

Sets for sale or trade:

1998 Leaf Rookies & Stars-- 99.7% complete.
1999 Finest-- Complete.
2000 Bowman Chrome-- Complete.
2001 Studio---97% complete.

Interesting choice for base cards, but I agree with you that the 1994 Sportflics are a great design. The photos on the front are pretty high quality especially for the era!

Another insert set I really like is the 1993 Select Chase Stars/Rookies/Aces with the dufex technology. Almost makes it look like the player is moving!
All-time favorite insert card designs:

  1. 1991 Donruss Elite
  2. 1995 Studio Platinum
  3. 1994 Flair Hot Glove
  4. 1993 Ultra Award Winners
  5. 2001 Bowman Heritage Chrome
  6. 1994 Fleer All-Stars

For insert sets, it's back to Pacific just for their aesthetically pleasing and innovative designs. Runners up would be 1997 Ultra's inserts and 2000 Finest inserts especially the Ballpark Bounties.
Yes, Pacific Foul Pole cards were great!!!

I've seen some Pacific cards every now and again ... some of their designs were beautiful.
I have a Tony Gwynn die-cut crown card that is a work of art. Also, somewhere, I have a laser cut Flamethrower card of John Smoltz ... its genuinely stunning. Not sure what years or manufacturer but ... wow! I'll post them when I find them.
As far as general card designs, I have to go with the 1962 and 1968 Topps flagship design. I love these vintage designs.

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

Opened three more boxes of 1991 Donruss today without an Elite insert.

1991 Donruss would definitely top the ugly list!
