Mantle w/pen on back
Recently picked up this 60 Mantle. The card itself is really clean (thinking it would grade a 7) but someone wrote a small "60" on the back. What does this do to the value?
Sorry I couldnt post pics on my phone, try and get some tomorrow

First off that is a sweet card! Second It will probably bring down the grade a bit. But that is a really nice card. Congrats!

I hate to say it because it really looks like a nice card but I think any ink reduces it to poor condition. I have many cards like this in my collection where the front looks awesome but there is a little bit of ink on the back. Someone here will correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree with Zep. You can also get it graded with a qualifier, in this case an (MK). So they (PSA) will give you what the card would be without the mark, then qualify it. In your case a 7(MK). I have a few of these in my collection and dont mind since they are most likely here to stay. If you plan to sell at some point, I've been told they bring the pricing down around 2 notches. That said, I would think the grade of the card, a 9(MK) vs. a 3(MK) and the size of the marking would really determine pricing. Hope this helps. Great card, a Mantle is a Mantle after all....
Desert racing baseball card collector? Yeah, that's not weird...

Ya I'm probably holding on to this one. Picked up 2 Trout Update RCs, and a beautiful Bench RC, a little brag post
Thanks for the input guys, I think I'll send it in and get it stabbed with a qualifier.

You're encouraged to brag about your conquests!
But I don't recommend stabbing the mantle card, if the ink brings it down a notch or two, a stab wound will really 'kill' the value.

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.
