*** The Lucha Underground Thread ***
Does anyone else here keep up with Lucha Underground on the El Rey Network? They're on Wednesday nights @ 8PM EST to 9PM. I'm an avid fan and I watch every week.

They have former talents such as Johnny Mundo (AKA John Morrison in WWE), Alberto El Patron (AKA Alberto Del Rio in WWE), Mil Muertes (AKA Judas Mesias in TNA), Chavo Guerrero Jr., Jack Evans, Prince Puma (AKA Ricochet), Konnan (from WCW but he doesn't wrestle he's a manager for Prince Puma), Ivelisse (former Tough Enough Contestant, wrestled for TNA too), Son of Havoc (former Tough Enough contestant), Big Ryck (AKA Ezekiel Jackson in WWE), Blue Demon Jr., Cage (former developmental talent for WWE in FCW, he also wrestled 1 match for TNA), DelAvar Daivari (AKA Daivari in WWE and AKA Sheik Abdul Bashir in TNA). They also have a great deal of talent that wrestle/wrestled for AAA, in Mexico, Japan etc. The ringside announcers are Vampiro (yes, the same guy from WCW) and Matt Striker (former announcer/wrestler in WWE too). I really love the Vamp/Striker duo, I think they mesh very well together. Striker is an awesome PBP guy and Vamp is the color guy.

Some of my favorite wrestler's are Angelico, The Mack, Ivelisse (this girl can really go, she can wrestle men too. Very impressive female talent), Sexy Star (pretty much the same thing what I wrote for Ivelisse, Sexy Star however wear's a mask). It also doesn't hurt that both those girl's are verrrrrry good looking!! Cage is just awesome, I really like seeing him wrestle. The guy is built like a military war tank but can perform as if he was the size of Rey Mysterio Jr. It's UNBELIEVABLE some of the lucha moves this guy can pull off. I can't believe the WWE let him go but maybe he wasn't as good back then as he is now. Jack Evans. Some of the more traditional masked Luchadors I like are Pentagon Jr., Mil Muertes, Drago, Son of Havoc and King Cuerno.

For the past 2 weeks they aired their "Ultima Lucha" big-card PPV style show. Last week's show which was the conclusion of Ultima Lucha ran for 2 hours. It was a great show. Melina (formerly of WWE) made a surprise appearance helping Johnny Mundo win his singles match against Alberto El Patron. Hopefully she does more than manage and wrestles. I always liked her in-ring ability not to mention her looks. Lucha UG has a lot of hot female talent, IMHO.

As I mentioned earlier they have the Lucha Underground Trios Championship that is held by a team of 3 wrestlers and defended in 6-person tag matches. I had always wished there was a 6-man tag championship and finally there is one!! The Trios Matches are SOOOOOOO fun to watch! The Trios Champions are The Disciples of Death who are Mil Muertes' henchmen and managed by Catrina. The Lucha Underground [World] Champion is Mil Muertes who just won it on last week's show by beating the inaugural champion, Prince Puma. Lucha Underground also has the "Gift of the Gods" Championship which was won by Fenix in a 7-person Match on last week's show. Each of those 7 competitors had won a special gold Aztec medallion in assorted matches to be in this match. The holder of this title can challenge the Lucha Underground Champion whenever they want so long it's done a week in advance so that Lucha Underground can properly promote the match. This Gift of the Gods Championship is basically Lucha Underground's version of WWE's "Money in the Bank". Only difference is instead of their wrestler walking around with a briefcase, Lucha Underground made it into a unique Championship Belt. Pretty smart on their part, I really like their idea. However, if the holder of the Gift of the Gods Championship doesn't use it in a certain amount of time then they will be forced to defend it in a match. And after the Gift of the Gods Champion uses it for a Lucha UG Championship match then the 7 gold Aztec medallions will be taken off the belt and be allowed to win again in various matches to determine a new Gift of the Gods champion. Pretty damn cool idea.. I hope there's another member here who watches so I can have someone to chat with, lol.

What a season 2 series debut tonight. I'm soooo incredibly happy that LU is back. Thank God they put Vampiro back at the announce table with Striker, they mesh incredibly well, IMO. Here's my random thoughts about the season premiere:

- The opener could've been the main event, that's how good of a match this was. Fenix defended his Gift of the Gods Championship against King Cuerno. Nothing but fast paced action and hard hitting. I was surprised Cuerno won and is the new GotG champion.
- I thought it was a nice touch by having the LU champion, Mil Muertes, sit in a "king's chair" in The Temple watching the matches high up above everyone.
- Catrina is now in charge and the more she's on camera = the more happy I am. Man is she hawt.
- Second match of the night was a #1 contenders triple threat match where the winner got a title shot against Mil Muertes later in the night. Ivelisse Vs. Angelico Vs. Son of Havok. Ivelisse won and I had a feeling she would. She's another hot tamale.
- In the main event Muertes easily defeated Ivelisse to retain his LU championship. Prince Puma showed up to save Ivelisse from a post-match beating. And with Muertes alone in the ring, Pentagon Jr. sneaks up behind him and attacks him. And he broke his arm! Vampiro looked on in disbelief.

I can't wait to see Rey make his debut whenever that may be. It's such A SHAME that Del Rio decided to return to WWE. He was SO much better as Alberto El Patron. He couldn't be anymore capital-B-Boring in WWE. The guy was clearly getting over as a face in AAA and LU and Vince throws the checkbook at him and the only thing the E seemed to book right was his return. He got a clean pin-fall victory over Cena, sure. But the stupid Mex-America gimmick lasted all of like 2 weeks. Doesn't make any sense they paired him with Zeb Colter. Now he's been thrown into this "League of Nations" stable that plain sucks. And he's flip-flopped the US Championship with the mosquito, Kalisto. Isn't it clear that Vince signed ADR as sabotage?

I've had to watch via dailymotion or youtube as I don't get El Rey.

I think it is a fresh and unique "product" and a good TV series.
With 20+ years collecting, this is the most comprehensive single player collection in the world! Beckett lists 4000+ cards - I'm at 95% completion!

Cool, least I'm not alone here anymore, lol. I share your exact sentiments.

Who are some of your favorite wrestlers to watch on LU?

Season 2; Episode 2 random thoughts:

- The show kicked off with a nice promo between Prince Puma and Pentagon Jr. We learned they would be joining forces tonight in the main event.
- Opening match had Johnny Mundo Vs. Killshot. Great, fast-paced opener. This was MotN for me. For a second, I thought Killshot would pull the upset victory but no dice. Mundo got on the mic after he won to call out Muertes. But out from the crowd, high at the top, Cage appeared and was cheered. He then called out Mundo. Eventually, Cage made his way to the ring to confront Mundo who left the ring only to return and sneak attack Cage. But Cage is too much of a man for Mundo. Looks like we're getting a Cage/Mundo program, nice.
- Debut vignette of a new girl that will debut next week called, Kobra Moon.
- It looks like Marty the Moth has kidnapped Sexy Star as shown in a clip.
- Debut vignette for "The Darewolf" PJ Black (AKA Justin Gabriel in WWE). PJ is going to get to do his "dare-devil" gimmick. Which best suits him, IMO. Since that's who he really is and what he's about.
- 2nd Match: Willie Mack Vs. "Darewolf" PJ Black (Black's LU debut match). Let me first say, I'm a big fan of The Mack. He has a poor looking physique but the guy can go! This was an interesting match. I assumed Mack would be doing the job since this was PJ's debut but I was pleasantly surprised. Mack got the win! But don't get it twisted, even though Mack won they made Black look strong in the match. Great job, LU.
- Main Event: Prince Puma & Pentagon Jr. Vs. The Disciples of Death in a 3-on-2 Handicap Match. The whole match was centered around how the team of Puma and Pentagon would coexist. Puma would not feed Pentagon the hot tag so eventually, Pentagon would either tag himself in or enter the match illegally and take out all 3 DoDs. The finish had Pentagon tag himself in when Puma was on the top rope right before his 630 Senton Splash and Pentagon stole the pin to get the victory.
- To close the show we got a promo of a mysterious voice talking to the new Dragon Azteca. He told him that he was supposed to inherit the mask but he chose a different path. The voice tells Dragon Azteca he is on his own new path. The camera slowly pans to the voice and it's revealed to be none other than Rey Mysterio Jr.!!!!

Lastly, I want to commend LU on fitting SO MUCH into their hour long show. We got 3 matches, debut vignette for a new girl, "Kobra Moon", debut vignette for PJ Black, Puma/Pentagon opening promo, Marty/Sexy Star promo, build to a Mundo/Cage feud and also factor in commercials. So, the show is really about 45 minutes. They manage to do so much in an hour show. That's how I used to feel about Raw back in the day when it was 2 hours long.

I'm hoping we get a Puma Vs. Pentagon Jr. future match. Cage looks like he got bigger, if that was even possible. He's good on the mic too. Not to mention Rey made his on-screen debut.

I LOVE LUCHA UNDERGROUND.

CERRRRO MIEEEEDO!
