Gem Mint - How do dealers get sooo many!

Gem Mint - How do dealers get sooo many!
If you are at eBay you'll notice PWCC has hundreds of auctions ongoing. It makes me cringe to see how many PSA 10 cards they have listed which of course sell for 300%++ over the same card as a 9 Mint.

How can any one person or entity have so many Gem Mint condition? I am sure that if I sent in the same exact condition card, mine would come back a 9 every time whereas it seems the big boys get the 10 Gem Mints.

I use BGS grading now but have used PSA in the past. I don't see the same thing as much with BGS, but I also noticed and have first hand experience with buiying/selling 9.5 BGS vs PSA 10. The PSA 10 on average I'd guess commands a premium over BGS 9.5 of I'd guess 15-30%. I suspect the PSA Set Registry has something to do with this and people wanting to be "best" on it.

Net Net..Do others notice the supposedly objective grading scale being subjectively influenced by the auction houses and dealer$ who spend lots on grading? Ever feel your card should be a Gem when only given a 9 and know they value difference is astronomical?

I had to get this out. Sorry for the rant.

Your Thoughts?

I never understood the desire for graded anyway unless its a valuable vintage. Grading new era cards is so give and take. You can see if is in good condition, if not its obvious.

I guess I don't have enough of them to make a difference, but they always stick out like a sore thumb in my collection. All else equal, I'd probably rather have a raw card.

Graded new cards to me are pointless. If your only after 9.5 or 10's your in this for the wrong reasons.
Of course the dealers will argue because yes there are the people that will pay fir them. im not one of them. Only slabs I have are psa/DNA authentic autos.
no org, please do not send trade requests

Yeah new cards really aren't worth it especially base RC's. Only modern era cards I'd consider having graded are low serially numbered ( /100 or less ) RC Autos.

I went to a card show back in 2007/8 at the Hollywood Park & Casino and overheard a conversation where a guy was asking for a "grade bump" on a low #ed Peyton Manning auto card that was already graded. I saw a quick "handshake" and the Beckett rep said no problem. Grade bumps do happen.

If you are buying/selling cards on flea bay unfortunately I think you have to have graded. It is too hard to represent condition via photo. Granted Many a card that is only worth 7-10 dollars has that much spent on the slab. but its the price you pay.

Also, in defense of the play to pay I have to admit with any sizable submission (30 or more cards) I always got back a 9.5 or 10 from either company which makes me believe they know how important it is to give these out if they want to keep customers coming back for more grading. I guess my beef if the sheer quantity of the PSA 10's I see with dealers and on cards I'd have no chance ever getting graded mint.

To me the difference between a 9 and 10 is 100% subjective and can rareley be seen anyway.

Even an 8 vs 9 seems negligible and has made me move away from grading since I know if my card grades 8 if will be worth half or less than the same card as a 9.
To Patrick54.....Thanks for the proof at the link you suggested.

Thought I was going out of my MIND!

I loathe google and haven't used it since Easter Sunday!! I tried to Yahoo! it, but I couldn't find what you were talking about.

So what are you claiming? Are you insinuating that Beckett is shady and underhanded?
