Ho-ly Crap. For a Patch of the fifth best guy on his own team(I am considering Ray Allen's entire body of work here)!

I am typically a fast shipper and I ALWAYS use Delivery confirmation. Sometimes I forget to provide the number.

It seems like someone is trying to F* over the seller. The seller has been cancelling bids including 2 that were for $10k. He even added a note in the auction about having to cancel suspicious bids. It looks like someone just keeps using new accounts to bid like crazy.

Yeah, the bid history is super sketchy on this one. My guess is all three of the bidding accounts are connected. One of them bid against themselves, one of he has a bunch of bid retractions, and the highest bidder placed their first ever bid as a grand on this card.

How can you tell all of this? Further, what is the advantage for the seller to do that if he doesn't ultimately net more money for his card?

The more important question for me is how can you tell all of this? I am not very eBay savvy. I dibble and dabble in selling but I would like to know more.

If you pull up an active listing it will show the number of bids. Click on that and you can see the bid activity ( who bid and what). You can then click on each bidder and it will give you statistics such as how many bids they have bid on for that seller, number of bid retractions, etc.

Why would someone do this? Either it is a pissed buyer who wants to bid up an item so it won't sell, or have it end high hoping the seller gets stuck with a pile of eBay fees. Or it is a buyer who plans on listing it as a BIN and wants buyers to do a search that shows recent sales that are ridiculously high. It is a way of manipulating the market.
