does this seem fishy?
o***m( 320) US $10.00 May-15-13 04:20:04 PDT

o***e( 632) US $9.56 May-15-13 06:16:41 PDT

o***e( 632) US $5.31 May-15-13 06:16:26 PDT

ok this is the bid history of an auction I was bidding on its still goin on waiting ill last second to snipe.... heres the thing the guy with the 10$ has been winning ... guy bids then bids again ... but only bids 9.56? why 9.56? why not 10$ or 10$ and change ... I think he obviously shilled this and didnt want to risk outbidding a 10 max bid. lol tooo much time on my hands working from home today!

Maybe, but sometimes I will bid an odd amount say if the shipping is 2.97, I may bid xx.03 or xx.53 to make it an even amount, but it never works out that way anyway because it almost never ends exactly at the max bid.

I usually bid an odd amount. I never bid exactly $10 or $11 or $10.50 or whatever. I think people will bid that so I bid a little over, like $10.06 if I think someone is going to bid $10. Hope this helps.

I always bid odd numbers but once and odd bid is high bid then its out of whack and the other guy might have higher than 10 like 10.25 but if the off bidding falls under that and the other guy bids the same amount it will only go up in .25 cent bids I hope that made sense cuz Im confused

so I won it at 10.50.......

i bid odd amounts all the time too.... like uni numbers for the change and such.... but why bid 9.56 unless all your doing is driving up the price if i out outbid by 44 cents i would bid like 10.25 or something

RE: does this seem fishy?
An "odd" amount is completely subjective, and its just that..."odd." If you bid $10.25, I would actually think that it was an "even" amount because it falls on an increment that coincides with a quarter.

But in any event, I doubt that its shill bidding. Why would anyone really be jeopardizing their account for a relatively small amount? Plus, if it was a shill bid, wouldn't the shill bid actually be the bid that would conform more to an "even" number?

Doesn't really matter anyway as you won with your sniped price. Congrats!

RE: does this seem fishy?
I try an outbid folks with random numbers. If the top bid is $10 - I'll bid $10.68. A little over minimum, but I can see then what the lower bid may have been. I'm always throwing out weird amounts - I never ever bid a normal number - generally a bid of something with .47 or .18 or .63 or .29 etc....

Because - if the lower bidder was at 10.50 - I out bid them at 10.68 and don't have to spend $11. Likewise - bid 10.29 and the high bidder only bid 10.25 - then I'm in at 4 cents above top bidder and am not stuck with the minimum .25-.50-$1 bid increase.
