This is just a wild guess, but (let me think of how to say this politely....) NO!

He told us in the OP (if you would've read it) that this pickup gives him 298 of 303 Jeter "rookie" cards and spent all this time defending the pick up. I highly doubt he will sell it and then have to look for years and years for another to come around.

Rookie cards have nothing to do with licensing. Rookie cards only depend on where the player was playing *the year the card was issued*... and that has to be in the MLB.

Beckett and card manufacturers don't need to tell me what a rookie card is because they're only trying to make money, it makes the most sense to agree with what the Major League Players Association says what rookies and rookie cards are the first card(s) of a player as a MLB player.

Unfortunately, and although it may sound bad, any other definition only supports people trying to make money because any other definition will always be inconsistent. I generally don't trust inconsistencies like this in the hobby.

But just because a card may not be a rookie card doesn't mean it shouldn't be collected... or loved... so this shouldn't deter the OP from collecting pre-rookies or first year cards at all or make his accomplishment any less impressive.
Bowman: home of the pre-rookie card.

To me the definition has changed

1993 back then was Jeters official RC
1994. Prospect cards
1995-1996 rookie year cards

It's just different now. I prove my point by saying what's the number 1 card you will want from 1992-1996 and ill be surprised if everyone doesn't say 1993 SP

Nice Pickup! Your collection is awesome. - I just landed the 1996 Diamond Destiny Gold Larkin about 30 minutes ago for $25. I only need 3 more cards for 100% completion from 1986-1996 for Larkin. Unfortunately, one is still the 1996 Mirror Gold, but the other 2 are very attainable. Which ones do you still need? Good Luck!
Need the following for my 1986-1995 Barry Larkin collection
(Currently have 477/479):

88 Score Samples #72
95 UD Electric Diamond Gold #405

Please send me a PM if you have any of these!
Interested in buying any other Larkin cards that I don't have as well!!

Actually I am at 299 of 303 and wow this topic was brought up after it sat for a year. For the people mentioning the last one that sold as with all Derek Jeter's cards it just depend who is looking for the card at that time. I have seen this card also sell for $250.00 to as low as $50.00 that someone just pointed out. But to the guy who asked if I would sell it I am going to pass as I am 4 away from my 1992 to 1996 Derek Jeter collection being complete and selling this would just make me have to get another one to replace it. I do have quite a few doubles but being 10,000 miles away I don't have access to them to make a list for you and see what you might be looking for though you are on a list of 4 other people looking to get Jeter cards off me that I have doubles of. I am just glad he is doing well this year and it looks like he will get his 3300 hit before the year ends and 3500 will almost be a definite for him to reach before his career is over.

You should create a website if you haven't already (other than photobucket) to showcase your collection. The collection is obviously worthy of a site all to itself...

When I finish all his 1992 to 1996 cards I probably will. My buddy Paul beat me to the punch though as he has owned all of them though he has sold quite a few already. He recieved a steal for the Mirror Gold he bought. I have picked up some new cards of his to increase my 90's collection but I will not be updating anything till I get back next year.
