I was searching through some cards on ebay, I like the 08 topps premiere look, I noticed several autos some saying "Player issue" and some saying "certified autograph issue" right by the signature, but it was listing them as the same auto and card # on back? ANyone know what the difference is?

"player issue" were cards given to the player to do as they see fit. hand em out to kids etc ..... do not buy a "player issue" card if it's auto'd most of them are fake autos imho ..... the "certified autograph issue" are the only ones that came from the factory sans auto

"Player Issue" were supposed to be given to the players at the Rookie Premiere Photo Shoot for them to trade amongst one another.

It is best not to purchase any Topps Premiere auto unless it has been graded as authentic. There are far too many forgeries and/or ones with unsubstantiated documentation out there. I'll submit this as an example of a lot that is probably not completely authentic:

I say this based on the commonly held belief that the print run on blue ink autos is 50 and red inks is 10. If that is the case then this one lot alone accounts for 8 of the 10 reds. Pretty hard to have happen when 5 others are listed or have ended with bids in the last two weeks that aren't owned by this seller.

Let me make it clear: I am not saying this seller is knowingly selling fakes. I can't make that claim and a lot of people honestly don't know the bad history behind this set. All I will say is be very careful when buying these. Steer clear of the "Player Issue" ones.

Is it for just that year, or the whole make in general?

Thanks for the info guys I might have been out of a good 30 bucks had I not known. =). Just a shame that we have to worry about scams and stuff like that in this hobby
