I've collected since I was about 5 years old (would have been about 1988 at that time), and I've found that player collecting is the most fun for me. I get more enjoyment from finding a card pop up that I need than opening packs. I hate clutter and having useless things sitting around the house, so buying packs/boxes and letting them heap up doesn't do it for me. I have a passion for the team/player and not so much cards in general. It just irritates me buying boxes and just knowing that all those base cards are just going to sit there and not go to good use. I won't buy packs/boxes anymore now with any regularity. I might get a retail pack once a month now, but that's about it. To me, it just seems like a better use of my money to just buy what I want and not accumulate boxes and boxes of cards that will just sit with no purpose.
