The post below is from page 2 submitted in 2009.Hi Nittany, thanks for the update, I was too lazy to reread 45 pages, , not even making page 2!!! I included the 2002 Score Originals Autographs as reference in case that was what collectors thought it was, you are correct, Kearse in 2002 has a 1999 #ed to 9, 2000 #ed to 7 & 2001 Score #ed to 8 as well as a 2001 Select version #ed to 6, 4 versions in all for a total of 30 autos, these are in the OPG. My Testaverde auto is different to your scanned one so it's not a 1 of 1!!! So the list for Beckett OPG etc to be added, if you are reading Beckett, please update, 2001 Select autos (print run unknown) 058 Randall Cunningham 137 Kerry Collins 147 Vinny Testaverde (at least 2 copies exist) 207 Jevon Kearse. Any additions?

RE: The official "football cards that are currently missing from the online Beckett
Nittany good to see you back on here!
Here are some more additions. It is amazing what variations you can find just by browsing COMC. I just got these all in the mail from there. This first one is the canton bound insert set from 1994 select. There is a red version and gold version. Beckett just lists one version. The gold has a little rougher feel on the surface. I believe it is the dufex version. Beckett lists Dufex in the team pinnacle set but not on this. The next parallel is not listed either but with so many different variations on this I can understand why beckett couldn't keep up. These are the gold helmet versions of 1994 Collector's Edge FX. This third and final variation could be a printers error but I believe due to the opaque back it is an honest parallel. Notice the gray border base of this and below it is a pink border with opaque back.

Those Pinnacle club cards are seriously HTF. There are actually 2 different Marino cards, only one of which is listed, but these coins are way off the radar. Nice findDont think Marino is in the coin set.... Looks like he has all 3 there by the numbering on the front. These look like printer errors. Very cool ones. Missed the whole red stamp. You can see it in the footballs. These ones are discolored over time. Either people keeping them in showcases or owners that are smokers or have kept them in high heat areas have played with plastic cards. You'll find these problems with almost all plastic cards.
Trying to finish these sets:
1999 Upper Deck Strike Force Quantum /100 2000 Score Complete Players Green/ Blue 2000 Leaf Piece of the Game Preview 4th Down Isaac Bruce 2008 Premier NFL Equipment /25 John Elway Let me know if you have any available.

RE: The official "football cards that are currently missing from the online Beckett
I realize you can't feel the Canton Bound cards but I can and it has more of a dufex feel like the 1994 Pinnacle Team Pinnacle cards that Beckett recognizes. That is why I don't think it's a printing error. Yes I realize plastic cards do fade but the Edge FX ones I have scanned are not faded. The back is more opaque on one and more translucent on the other. That is not from fading.

RE: The official "football cards that are currently missing from the online Beckett The backs of Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith are printed in reverse on the top 2 Edge F/X, not on the bottom two. The blue bar on all 4 cards is definitely printed, EDGE F/X, Coll Edge Logo and the Team NFL etc, all printed on the back only. Definitely a variant. From Beckett Football Card Price Guide No 12 (up to 1995 releases), the description was; This seven card (Elway, Montana, Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Bettis, Anthony Miller & Sterling Sharpe) standard size set was randomly inserted into Collector's Edge packs. These cards with gold shields are also found in Collector's Edge gold packs. Cards with white backs or silver shields are inserted in Collector's Edge retail jumbo packs. Cards featuring silver or gold backs are found in Collector's Edge silver packs. Cards with silver or gold lettering are found in Collector's Edge Pop Warner packs. Also, cards with red lettering were sent out as part of the EdgeQuest redemption program. The cards are transparent with the players image and the words 'Edge F/X' located in the upper left corner. The player is identified near the bottom of the card. The multipliers for the non base parallels were Gold Shields 3x to 6x White Backs .5x to .75x Silver Shields 3x to 6x Silver Backs .5x to .75x Gold Backs 3x to 6x Silver Letters same price as base cards Gold Letters 3x to 6x Red Letters .3x to .5x I think you have the base and the white back parallel(from Collector's Edge retail jumbo packs). I wish the price guide still had descriptions like this as information is lost from the 'old days' of the 1990's when card companies like Collector's Edge, Fleer, Pacific, ProLine / Proset, Wild Card disappeared, or got absorbed into others (Action Packed, Pinnacle etc). Hire me at Beckett and pay me enough, I'd happily build and update a Football encyclopedia with descriptions that would truly help collectors.

In recent months I have been very busy and am hoping that things settle down for me a little. I have had a chance to lurk on the forum occasionally though. I just wanted to let you know, just in case. Actually I was not previously aware that there was a Kearse one from the set so I am happy that you brought it to our attention that there is a fourth one needed to be added to the checklist with the others. No one should worry about submitting something that already may have been either. It would take forever to verify if something has already been discussed, as I stated previously. Maybe someone from the Beckett staff will happen to see the recent posted examples and then add those if it has been recently discussed again too. Even I made the mistake of posting missing OPG examples a second time, only then realizing later that I submitted the same example years ago prompting me to delete one of the posts to lessen potential confusion. Since then I put together a spreadsheet stating which missing OPG items I previously discussed and what page said example is located on. |
