How can an unlicensed card, have an authentic autograph? I never understood it.

They are licensed by the Players Assoc. just not MLB. Also, all the authentication is doing is saying....we the (whomever) certify that we are authenticating that so & so signed. For all we know...Mike Trout's mom is signing all his cards (I kid........)

The licensing only has to do with MLB and MLBPA, and has nothing to do with the authenticity of the autograph. As Phillies_Joe pointed out, the authenticity statement is simply a statement from the card company that they are certifying the autograph to be signed by the player shown.
