Young Goalie Values
Which young goalie do you think is the better option to collect for value long-term and who do you think will be the better goalie in the NHL. My opinion is Jonathan Bernier, mainly because I collect everything of his. And I am a die-hard Kings fan, but I don't know how much favourtism that is. I will throw out some suggestions out there, would like to hear what everyone's opinion is.

Jonathan Bernier
Tuukka Rask
Ondrej Pavalec
Simeon Varlamov
Justin Pogge
Brian Elliot
Cory Scheider
Other

The top 4 I think are the better 4 goalies. Listed Pogge, Elliot and Schneider just because they play for Canadian teams and they value of their cards should be pretty stay pretty good because of the fanbases. Price and Mason are not included since their values are already through the roof.

NONE.  Its too hard to predict goalies!  Im hoping (being a Bruins fan), that Tuukka can benefit from being a back up to Tim Thomas for a couple years and not having the weight of a franchise thrown on his shoulders (ala Price, Varlamov, Mason..ECT).  For Every Roy and Brodeur, theres a Raycroft and Penney.

Goalies are a very tough predict, especially since there are so many of them playing at any given time.

Varlamov hybrid very quick and got some good experience this year.

Quick very athletic hybrid, working with Ranford has really boosted his stock and this might cause Lombardi to ship someone off in a deal to get a sniper. Ersberg or Bernier might be the sacraficial players.

Mason maybe it was beginners luck, but this kid stood on his head for a team not very deep on defense.

I'm not sold on Bernier, I am not a big fan of the butterfly style he plays.

Rask was pretty good in last years AHL all-star game.

Pogge, the Leafs were smart not letting him get shelled this year in front of a pretty bad team, but again, what is Burke going to do with him?

Ondrej might just get pushed into net, since Lehtonen has had problems with his groin.

Finland seems to be a factory for goaltenders, so there are probably a few other kids on the way.

Hockey only! Interested in current players and also retired HOF players, also vi
ntage graded cards. Los Angeles Kings fan, also a big goalie collector. Not real
ly into low-end brands or sets.

you should be higher on Bernier than Quick.

Quick has the upside of someone like Turco (#1 goalie)
Bernier has the upside of someone like Luongo (Franchise goalie)

Bernier will get his shot.

I think Varlamov has a good chance at being great. In the regular season he was 5-0. Not too shabby but also look what happened in the playoffs. He is a good goalie but lets up some flooks. My coach once told me, being a goalie, that what makes a great goalie is one that makes the saves he's suppossed to and then suprises you on some.

Collecting Cory Schneider and Swedish Goalies

If you're a die hard kings fan and you've got his cards why not stick with Bernier? IMHO you should collect who you like. To me I wouldn't bother collecting a player I didn't care about but it's your call.

I wouldn't try to predict who's going to be a superstar. Unless you're rich you'll probably wish you were collecting someone inexpensive. I think the cooker was pretty smart to collect Matt Cooke since all the nice cards are affordable. I started collecting Roy when I was a kid and I can't hope to afford his high-end stuff now. But he's my favorite player so I collect what I can.

Speaking of Pogge. I busted a pack of artifacts and pulled a rookie redemption and it turned out to be him. Was I better off not redeeming it? I didn't know the redemption cards themselves had a BV. I assume they lose their value when you redeem them? Sorry to hijack your thread.

Ya, once you redeem them, they are worth less. People will pay more for the redemption in hopes they can get a good patch for a little cheaper. Once people try to sell the redeemed card on ebay it usually sells for less.

As for myself. I do collect Bernier and intend on keep going. Just making conversation on goalies and wanted to see opinions on other goalies.

Brian Elliott (but I'm a little biased Big Grin ). Leclaire will get hurt (as he always does) and the Sens will turn to Elliott again. He had a strong stretch for them even though they played like garbage in front of him.

I think Mason is the man. He sure proved himself this year and did a great job with Team Canada. I'm from London and was pretty impressed with what he did with the Knights and if he didn't get hurt with Kitchener they would have been champions. Big and quick the future looks good for Columbus.
