OT: M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening"
Man, I hit a hot button with all of the M. Night haters! I'm kind of trying to understand why so many people dislike his movies (except for the sixth sense), so I thought I would pose a question:
If his last 5 films released after the Sixth Sense had NOT been pushed as the next great M. Night Shyamalan movie, instead just having the movie itself be the promotion, would they have been bashed as much by critics and movie fans alike? I think the main problem with M. Night's career has been that he made his masterpiece as his first film (The Sixth Sense) and in the horror genre it is very hard to live up to a movie like that (take Romero and his Night of the Living Dead series, the first film was brilliant and none of his other films ever quite lived up to it). I just think its funny how so many people bash his stuff just because it was him doing it and not really for what the movie itself is. I will usually hit up any horror movie I can, and there have been some terribly bad ones I've sat through, but they never received the amount of negative reviews that Shyamalan gets. I just think it is fun to delve into this stuff, so keep posting! |

aronp24 Wrote:tincastlemusic Wrote:Well, being the movie fanatic that I am, on Saturday I had to go check out the latest M. Night movie, "The Happening". M. Night is without a doubt my favorite director (horror movies are definitely my genre), and I've loved everything he's done in the world of film (even though he is constantly getting bashed by critics and movie-goers alike). In a world full of remakes, at least M. Night is willing to attempt to create things that haven't been done before and take those chances. ??? |

I was excited to see this movie and was very disappointed when I left. I call it Final Destinations 4 because the best parts of the movie were the death scenes. It did have suspense but with a non-twist ending it just leaves you with a feeling of WTF? which is not what you want when you plunk down $10-15 on a movie these days. Like HAHA, you thought I was going to have some clever twist to make this whole movie make sense, but I didn't SUCKERS!!
How many attack of the killer tomatoes movies were there? I guess this one could be named Attack of the Killer Trees and Grass? |

always thought of this as a rental. movies are 9.50 here in Indy and we have to be really excited about it to go see it at the theater. Most movies these days are junk so I only get out to see a handful a year at the movies.
I liked unbreakable and the village. Signs was ok but way too over hyped. I think when you go in thinking it's going to be awesome I'm almost always wishing I had my $10 back. |

my g/f and i went to see it yesterday, she liked it...........I absolutely HATED IT...........too many scenes in this, just out in there for "shock value"......the zoo footage etc.........horrible writing......the dialogue was LAUGHABLE.............I wanna say that Shamalyan is a one-trick pony........with sixth sense.........BUT I liked unbreakable...........being a big comic-book fan..........but back to The Happening..........at least I got to look at Zooey Deschanel for 2 hours.......

OT: M. Night Shyamalan's "The Happening"
I really enjoyed his first 2 movies, not so much since then.
Also, I have not seen the Happening, but it couldn't possibly be worse than the Strangers. |
