RIP Phil Niekro
2020 delivers one more blow to us baseball fans as we lose Hall of Famer Phil Niekro. He was 81. R.I.P. Phil.
I collect Hall of Fame baseball player cards and cards of current and retired superstars.

RE: RIP Phil Niekro
I just know him as the brother of the guy who had a file fly out of his pocket while on the mound for the Twins.

That moment, as well as the Gant/Hrbek incident are 2 of the funniest Twins moments to me.

RIP Phil. Good pitcher for a long time. When he was on, impossible to hit. But when his knuckleball was not Buggy's Bunn-ing he got lit up. He and Wilbur Wood both posted +20 win - +20 loss seasons and could pitch all day.

RE: RIP Phil Niekro
The YANKS had him for a brief time towards the end of his career and when he was ‘on’ he was untouchable. 3 seasons and left with a winning record ... believe he was in his 40’s at the time.

I guess if I saved used tinfoil and used tea bags instead of old comic books and old baseball cards, the difference between a crazed hoarder and a savvy collector is in that inherent value.

RE: RIP Phil Niekro
That makes 7 Hall of Famers gone in 2020 and a couple of other pretty good players.

WSJ article about those guys (and Dick Allen, Jimmy Wynn, Tony Fernandez):
