Questionable Authenticity

Questionable Authenticity
I sent a 1985 Topps Mark McGwire RC to BGS and it didn't grade due to "Questionable Authenticity". are people really counterfeiting this card? Has anyone else come across this? I have owned a few of these and this one didn't have anything that jumped out to me that would make me thing, this is fake...It could just be a good one. Could BGS be wrong and should I try resubbing it? looking for opinions..
Thanks!

RE: Questionable Authenticity
Back when McGwire hit 70 home runs that was a $100+ card, so yes people started to create forgeries of it. Now that card can be found fairly cheaply, sometimes even in $1 bins. So while it wouldn't make sense to create fakes now, back in the late 90s there was plenty of monetary reasons to do so.
Collecting John Stockton, Karl Malone, Ivan Rodriguez, Gary Carter & UF player rookie year cards.  Plus Jedd Gyorko rookie and prospect cards.

That makes a ton of sense....Not sure why I didn't think of that...

RE: Questionable Authenticity
I submitted a card to Beckett several years ago and they sent it back saying the same thing. So I had a buddy resub it to them under his account and it came back with the same results. Then it went to PSA & SGC afterwards. All three said the same thing, fake.

I would tell you to save the money of trying to resub it someplace else and just accept it is a fake. I wish I had. But my card was also several thousand dollars. Luckily I was able to block payment for the card through my credit card company as the seller went dark shortly afterwards.

Glad you're not out a bunch of money.
