1984-85 Star Jordan XRC Advice

1984-85 Star Jordan XRC Advice
Hello,
I'm an old collector from the 80s and 90s getting back into things.

I was wondering what people think about the card in the picture. It sold for $3,100 on ebay.
Thanks,
Jim

I know that's the lowest price that a BGS 8 has gone for since December. The last two 8's both sold in December for 3,551.93 and 3,485.99.

Other than that, what specifically are you asking about?

Thanks for the advice. I was asking because I bought it, and I was looking for input on the purchase (was having a little doubt, mostly due to the price). I just didn't want to be called an idiot if it was a bad purchase.Smile

How do you get the past history of sales on ebay?

If you look at the top of the page near the blue "Search" button, there is the word ADVANCED. Click on that and right below the blue "Search" button on that page are the words: Title and Description, Completed Listings, and Sold Listings. If you type in the title of the card and click the sold listings, it will give you the recent sales of whatever item you have put in the search. I do the sold listings instead of the completed listings because the completed listings includes auctions/Buy It Now that may not have sold (the auction ended, but the price was not reached or no one bought it). The sold listings only includes items that actually sold. Hope this helps.

Worthpoint has the last 6 or 7 years of ebay sales.

Thank you for the tip. That helps a lot!

The MJ Star XRC 101 is one of the cards that I have been following closely. As "nickm1123" mentioned earlier, your best bet is to use eBay's completed results if you want the most recent data. Worthpoint's latest data has limitations and starts at June 2014 and back. It does not reflect the last seven months in which, during this period, this red hot card has been trending upwards and rapidly.

As mentioned earlier by "altz11", a pair of 8.0 sold for ($3,551) and ($3,485) back in December. In addition, during the last week, one of the major Star dealers sold an 8.0 for ($3599). A 7.5 which is lower graded than yours also sold via Buy-it-Now ($2499)

In the past two weeks, several were ended "early" before the eBay listing expired (which usually happens when a deal was struck off eBay for a PayPal direct sale to avoid fees). Included is an 8.0 ($2999), another 8.0 ($3999), and an 8.5 for a whopping ($4995)

In a related recent sale, last week PWCC had a bag with a poorly off-centered MJ 101 that sold for ($2600).

The 1984 MJ Star XRC 101 is on absolute fire. People are starting to realize just how incredibly undervalued and scarce the card is when compared to the 1986 Fleer MJ which is far more plentiful. The population report data from the big three (PSA, BGS, SGC) comparing the two cards do not lie. The pop numbers are staggering:

1986 Fleer: 23,500
1984 Star XRC: 369

23,500 vs. 369 ...... Three Hundred Sixty-Nine

So pat yourself on the back for a buy well done !

Thanks for all of the great information. I think I'm going to have to start doing the type of research I used to do when I was younger. The Star card was always more interesting when I was younger, but a little out of reach 20+ years ago. I shouldn't have bought all of that car stereo junk!

I wonder if my wife will give me a pat on the back?

Not gonna happen ;-)

But this card should turn out to be a very good investment over time.
