So my girlfriend and I are planning a trip to Vegas for either August or September (I know it's super hot in August, you don't need to tell me) and we're trying to figure out where to stay and what to do while we're there. So those of you that live in the area or that have been there, can you please share your opinions on the best places to stay, best places to eat, best places to gamble, and the like? I'm mostly interested in food and show opinions but would love opinions on all of it.

We do have the choices for hotels and shows to see narrowed down to a small list but I'd like to see some peoples opinions on the area to see if I change my mind. Thanks for any and all feedback and opinions.

I just realized I should probably clarify a little. We'd like the trip to be on the cheap side ($1000-1500 each at most) because we're both poor college kids. So places like the Wynn, Bellagio, and Venetian are out of the running for places to stay.

I've stayed at Luxor (great), Monte Carlo (very good) and Imperial Palace (OMG!). Luxor had a great room, pool and spa facilities. Casino is huge. Luxor is a long walk from the foutains at Bellagio, but I think there is a tram now. Close to the airport, so cheaper taxi fare. I'd stay again.

Monte Carlo is nice because it is closer to the heart of the strip. Casino seemed smaller but a nice place to stay. I'd stay again.

Imperial Palace. Wouldn't stay again. Small casino, and just a cheap place to stay.

Casinos I visited:

MGM - massive and plenty of places to play
Bellagio - you just have to go there
Paris - cool casino, kind of tight
NYNY - nice, but tight casino, roller coaster, grab a slice of pizza, stroll the streets of new york. If you go to MGM, cross the street and walk through here.
Rio - Nice and big, but not really worth the trip across the interstate with everything on the strip. They did have a great mexican restaurant there. Looks like a great place to stay.

Didn't hit any big shows. Ate at Emeril's in MGM. Expensive and good but I'm cheap and wouldn't eat there again. A lot of good places to eat without spending a lot of jack. Plenty of information available through google search on where to eat at a decent price.

Also went down to Fremont Street at night. Pretty cool experience. Small casinos are kind of cool to visit. I hear Golden Nugget is pretty nice down there. Taxi ride from strip is a bit pricey.

Thanks for the information man, very much appreciated. I don't want people to think I'm asking for a complete guide on where to stay and what to do. I'm not asking anyone to plan my trip for me. I've been doing research and checking out a few different sites that have reviews and the like of all the shows and restaurants and such. I'm just asking for peoples opinions to get a more informative idea on places and stuff to do. A lot of those sites with reviews can be very contrived and overly simplified with 95% of people responding with something like, "Awesome place. Must go!" or "Sucks. Stay away from it!". That kind of stuff doesn't really do me any good. I want to know what's good about places and why. I want some real information that's actually useful.

A couple of more hotel to consider in order :


1) Flamingo ( centerstrip , nice pool)

2) TI ( close to Mirage, Wynn and the mall)

3) Paris

4) Planet Hollywood

5) MGM

Alright, you know what. I'm going to post the stuff we've looked over so far so I can get a little more informed information on those places as well as the other stuff. That way you guys can kind of get a little bit of an idea of what we're interested in seeing and where we're looking at staying. I should have just included it in my first post but whatever, I'll do it now.

The places we're considering staying:
- Excalibur
- Luxor
- MGM Grand
- New York New York

As you can see, all four choices are hotels on the southern end of the strip. I know the Excalibur is quite a bit less fancy and extravagant than the other three on the list but the main reason it's in contention is because it's still at least an okay hotel from what I can tell and it's the cheapest of the four by a decent bit. Like I said, cheap is key for this trip and since we're not planning on spending a ton of time in our hotel room I figure a place like the Excalibur wouldn't be too bad for just a place to sleep and maybe wind down a little bit each night before bed. The other three are pretty self explanatory as far as why we'd want to stay there. They're all pretty nice hotels and in the relatively decent price range.

The shows we're considering seeing:
- Love
- O
- KA
- Mystere
- Crazy Horse Paris
- Mac King Comedy Show

The chances of us seeing all of these shows in our trip is pretty minimal because of time and money constraints, but those are the shows we're most interested in seeing. As you can tell, we're very much interested in the Cirque du Soleil type of shows as we have pretty much all of them listed as ones we want to see.

If anyone wants anymore information as to what we're interested in or planning on hitting up to help give more useful advice, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to tell you.

I would stay at the Flamingo. GOod price, great location, beautiful pool

Also make sure to get a players card.

For shows of your list i have seen KA, O, and Mystere. O is the best of the three, but Mystere is pretty close and probably cheaper. I had frontt rwo seats for KA and noticed they made many mistakes. Could have been an off night for some of the performers.

Excalibur will have a lot of kids staying. I do not recommend it. ALso check Monte Carlo since it appears you want to stay at that end of the strip.

I've seen Love and Ka, and I enjoyed Love a lot more. Knowing a lot of the Beatles' songs and some of the story behind their career made it easier to follow, and more enjoyable. I was just in Vegas about 3 weeks ago, and saw Ka then. Ka was a good show, but I wouldn't really want to see it again. I'd see Love again in a heartbeat though.
