Couple of New Pickups T206 Wagner
Sorry, I had to do it! [Image: smiley_zzbeer.jpg]

I think I've kind of taken a page from Beatles Guy and want to pick up cards of Red Sox players from varying sets that were created. At least that's what I think he's doing with some of his collection? I love the color on the Wagner card though, reminds me of some Caramel cards in a way.

Anyway, part of that though is I want to collect the Red Sox from the T206 set. The biggest one will be Tris Speaker but it won't be a killer.

Very nice and vibrant colors congrats
a little info on Heinie Wagner
Charles F. Wagner, better known as "Heinie," (September 23, 1880 - March 20, 1943) was a shortstop for the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. While not an exceptionally good fielder (he averaged 40 errors between 1908 and 1911), he was known to block the basepaths with his "exceptionally big" feet.[1] After retiring, he stayed with the Red Sox as a coach, and in 1930, he was hired to replace two-time World Series winner Bill Carrigan as manager of the Sox, but he fared no better, leading Boston to a league-worst 52-102 (.338) record. He never managed again.

Wagner died in New Rochelle, New York at age 62.

and a little info on Bill Carrigan
Carrigan started his career as a platoon catcher and played all ten seasons with the Boston Red Sox. Midway through the 1913 baseball season, he replaced Jake Stahl as manager of the defending World Series champion Red Sox as a player-manager. He then led Boston to a second-place finish in 1914 and two world championships in 1915 and 1916, compiling an 8-2 record as a manager in World Series play. Until Terry Francona duplicated the feat in 2007, he was the only manager to have won two World Series titles with Boston.

He then left baseball to become a banker in his home state of Maine.[1] He returned to manage the Red Sox in 1927, but he was unable to duplicate his previous success as Boston finished in last place for three straight seasons. Bill Carrigan died in Lewiston, Maine, at the age of 85. He was posthumously elected to the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2004

RLE you may have known this but I couldnt pass it up on the oppritunity to let everyone know who they are and what they did

Yeah I'm doing Cardinals from that era, at least one from each "major" set. Great cards bro, and they look great in the SGC holder.

Interested in EX-MT or better pre-'56 Cardinals, '53 Bowman Color & '74-'78 Topps.

Hey, I'm all for history on players! I think it's better to know about the players on the cards myself and I find the post-baseball lives to always be pretty interesting and, embarrassingly enough, I didn't know the extent of their histories.....yet. I did find it interesting though that of my three pickups this week, they replaced one another as Sox managers. I got Stahl, Carrigan, and Wagner this week.

My three year old son got quite the kick out of Wagner's name, as long as I'm saying it how I think it's supposed to be said.

Thanks. I just got a small batch of cards back from SGC today. Nothing nobody has seen before but man, some of those cards really pop now in those holders!

Well, if I win one of those large powerball/mega million jackpots, I will post that right after I pick up an American Caramel Joe Jackson and 1914 Cracker Jack Smoky Joe Wood.

Really nice cards. I still haven't picked any Tobacco cards yet. I hope to start picking a few by the end of the year. I have been dedicating most of the card income to some set of the 60s. Thanks for sharing.
