No idea what's wrong, but after my 1st PS3 died in 2009 I just sold it broken (clearly listed as broken) for something like $150 on Ebay and put the money towards a new one. The person couldn't repair it so they used it for parts. I'm sure you wouldn't get $150 at this point but if it does die you may want to consider the option.
