I wouldn't really look at any of these as investments. Personally, I just think it's fun opening wax. The one I've had fun with recently is 1989 Upper Deck. It's a bit of an historic set, as it really is the beginning of the newer "modern" cards, rather than plain cardboard. You even have a shot at a big "hit" in the Griffey rookie. Plus, unlike those older packs, you're not going to get so many damaged cards from wax and gum stains. I pulled an older decent card, and it was ruined with gum stuck to it, which obviously took a lot of the fun out of it.
