basic physics: for every action, there is an equal re-action !! so, just because they asked for input....doesnt mean its all gonna be positive. Its like companies that only want "positive" survey results....if they want the truth-then there is going to be negatives & positives !!
taffster74 Wrote:I know this is slightly off-topic, but what the heck ..... I am starting to get sick and tired of people coming here and bitching about the panini deal. Okay, we got it already - you don't like the idea. Get over it and get over yourselves. This is a thread where panini want's collector's input to consider. Any bitchers are going to be ignored.

To those who are insisting on making rookies rare - get out of your ivory tower. This is what has contributed to killing the hobby as it has bred investors who then come to these boards and denegrate someone for posting their box break of topps or mvp. Having a lot of rookies in a box really helps set-collectors and the young kids just getting into the hobby. Think about them rather than your own pockets for once.

Finally, as i said before, panini as asking for our input for consideration. Of course this is no guarantee they will listen to us or do exactly as we have said. Anyone who thinks that has their head in the clouds.

Back to the kids and set collectors - when Panini recieved the sole NBA license they stated they would return the hobby to it's roots and get kids back into to collecting by making the product more available and affordable. I know I am paraphrasing, but that was the essential gist of it.

Ok First Bring Back 50cent Packs and I don't mean the rapper, I remember the good old days when packs were 50cents and some even cheaper what this panini company need is to bring Kids back into the Hobby, now with the internet all you see is adults collecting and righftully so because packs are expensive if this company want to survive make cards affordable to children and go on from there just a suggestion

There are alot of the same stuff. But when someone puts something out thats ok and no one buys it, it will all of the sudden become rare.

I think Panini needs to do a few things...

1. Get Lebron, Kobe, MJ, Durant, and Garnett or else there will be a HUGE hole in your products. This cannot be underestimated on Panini's part.

2. When Upper Deck does something right, they really get it right, but when they get it wrong they really mess it up. Try to take what they do right and make it your own.

3. Have about 15 products-1 Exquisite like,4-5 upper-end products like Ultimate, SPX, and UD Black,4-5 mid level products like Topps Chrome, then a few lower end products for the kids and stickers.

4.For the upper end products, on-card autos only, big swatches, and multiple color patches. Save the sticker autos and single color jerseys for the lower end products and still give kids a thrill.

5.Parallel cards are a great idea, but limit the number you have. Keep it simple, regular, black, and gold. Dont use crazy colors leaving the collector guess which is the most limited version.

6. Do not overproduce the high end products! learn from the mistakes of the 90's.

7. When making serial numbered autos, do more to a card than just change the print run. I hated when upper deck had basically the same card /799, /50, /1. Change it up. Make the lower serial numbered cards more appealing.

8.Market the NBA cards internationally. But again, dont overproduce.

9. Limit the pointless inserts in upper end products. Possibly keep it simple with base and rookie auto's making up the base set, then a parallel version, plus one insert set of auto's and one of patches, then one low numbered insert of auto-patches.

10. Check the quality of your cards. There is nothing worse then grabbing a great rookie or auto and it be off center or a flaw on the surface.

Panini has a great opportunity to do some great things to this hobby, continue doing what works, expand on the great things, and fix what needs to be done.
they should still have chrome products and photoshoot autos

Suggestions for Panini Basketball... - taffster74 - 05-11-2009 02:27 PM

roflcano, Chrome is a copyrighted trademark of topps - don't expect anyone else to be doing it. As to the photoshoot auto's ... i could be wrong, but i think that is also a copyright trademark of Topps.
1) Autographs in high end products have to be signed on card. Why not in some cheaper products as well.

2) I dont like Redemptions. If redemptions are needed dont let them expire. Some people like to buy older products as well.

3) Manufactured Letterpatches aren“t cool. Please use only authentic gameworn letters, that makes a letterpatch card more worth.

4) I like the SP Signature Cards from Leaf Rookies and Stars FB with the manufactured team/college logo and the autograph, thats a good manufactured "patch" card. Maybe an good idea to use also for basketball products.

5) Some ideas for future panini-donruss products, michael phelps signs for topps, i think its a great idea to put a limited number of autographed inserts of legends/stars/future-stars of different kind of sports (not the main trading card sports: football, basketball, baseball, hockey)
some like Pele/beckenbauer,zidane, ronaldo/beckham etc. in soccer, Lance armstrong, ullrich, indurain etc. in cycling, Schumacher, prost, mansell, lauda in formula 1, or olympic greats like micheal johnson, usain bolt etc. or from boxing, tennis, table tennis, team handball........................etc.

This is not only for basketball but in general, across all sports. Please make the parallels easier to determine which is which. Some issues in the past I couldn't figure if I had a refractor or superrefractor or gray back or black back or what. It shouldn't be this hard to determine which parallel you have of a card. And don't make 50,000 different parallels of each card. Hard enough to collect just the base sometimes but then you have to hunt down 100 other cards similar to it to finish off your PC.
on card signatures for sure

and enough with the parallels, have enough subsets
Hope they make better card stock then the thin cards they make now, less Rookie cards would be good also to many made today. Rookie card Autographs is what I like best with game jersey. Like to see all stars from the NBA Lebron , Kobe etc...with autographs too put into sets.
