Edge was born to play a HEEL!!! - filliefan - 05-04-2010 04:25 PM

Its amazing that a few short weeks ago this guy seemed to be a shell of what he once was... until the heel turn. Already, he is back on top of his game and seems like a main eventer again. He was born to play a heel much like someone like Ricky Steamboat was born to play the hero. Some guys have played one or the other, turned, and it just didnt click- they seemed miscast. So my question to you guys is- which wrestlers were born to play heels, and which wrestlers were born to play the good guys?

I hate to state the obvious but Ric Flair is a born heel, well all of the orginal Horseman were there promo's are so good. Then of course Dusty and Magnum TA were born faces. TA may have been one of the greatest ever if he wouldn't have got hurt in that car crash. David Von Erik too, if he wouldn have died so young he would be in the same conversations as the greats.

Raven
Arn Anderson
Van Vader
STAN HANSEN!!
Randy Savage
Shane Douglas
Dudley Boyz
these are also in that best heels of all time list.

Shane Douglas is a great example. I met him after a show once and asked for an autograph. He just said,"No." I was disappointed but at the same time felt kind of honored that the ECW Champ was a jerk to ME! He was either still in character or is just a jerk but either way it is too bad that he never got to play the heel ECW character in WWE or WCW as his other personas never clicked with fans. I believe that he could have been a huge star in the Attitude Era in WWE if given the opportunity. A feud between the ECW Douglas character and Stone Cold Steve Austin could have been very entertaining.

I gotta throw another one out there- Ted DiBiase. I remember him as a face in the old UWF and I dont remember him as being anything special. But when WWF got ahold of him, the Million Dollar Man character was born and he became a household name. I cant think of anyone else who could have pulled it off quite like he was able to. Not sure if anyone else heard about this, but RVD was one of the kids he teased giving $ to, only to ruin his chances at the last minute. Great stuff!

Since you are adding another I would like to throw another out there too. Sgt. Slaughter was a born heel. Maybe it was the time frame with everything that was going on in the world but when he turned heel it set the wrestling world on its head.

Then turning face again and wrestling the Sheik in a "Boot Camp Match" was just as great, but he couldn't resist could he, nope turned heel again and went on to face The Alliance at Survior Series.

Any of the Russians (Ivan Koloff, etc..), Mad Dog Vachon, Baron Von Raschke, The Iron Shiek and any of the other Iranians played the heel perfectly!!!!!

You know, its funny because up until about a year ago I thought Nikita Koloff's accent was real. The way he mispronounced certain words made it all the more realistic. He may be my favorite "Russian" of that era. As far as Slaughter, timing was everything on that heel turn. Dare I say he may have been one of the most hated heels of all time! Not too many heels receive death threats, but Slaughter did. I'm kind of surprised in a way that he agreed to do it- but money talks I guess.
