This set consists of charcoal art portraits of NFL players. Each portrait measures approximately 8" by 10", and they were sold in sets of eight for $1 along with the end flap from Velveeta, or a front label from Kraft Deluxe Slices or Singles, Cracker Barrel Cheddar or Kraft Sliced Natural Cheese. There were four eight-portrait groups for each of the 16 NFL teams. Moreover, an official NFL portrait album which would hold 32 portraits was offered for $2. The player's name and position were printed beneath the charcoal portrait. The backs are blank. The portraits are unnumbered and have been checklisted below alphabetically according to team. A checklist sheet (8" by 10") was produced, but is not considered a card. The Redskins and Packers sets appear to be the easiest to find. Popular players issued in their Rookie Card year include Leroy Kelly, Tommy Nobis, Dan Reeves and Jackie Smith. Players issued before their Rookie Card year include Lem Barney, Brian Piccolo, Bubba Smith and Steve Spurrier. It is believed that six players on this checklist did not have portraits produced while several other player listed are incorrect. Several players apparently were switched out for new players in their respective sets: Chuck Walton replaced Mike Alford and Bob Pickens replaced Bob Jones as examples. Lastly, a Vince Lombardi Williams Portrait was issued for a Downtown Businessman's function for the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce on August 7, 1968. We price this photo below as well although it is not considered part of the complete set. [Collapse]
