The 1894 Mayo college football series contains 35-cards of top Ivy League players. The cards feature sepia photos of the player surrounded by a black border, in which the player's name, his college, and a Mayo Cut Plug ad appears. The cards have solid black backs and measure approximately 1 5/8" by 2 7/8". Each card is unnumbered, but we've assigned card numbers alphabetically in the checklist below for your convenience. One of the cards has no specific identification of the player (John Dunlop of Harvard) and is listed below as being anonymous. It's one of the most highly sought after of all football cards and seldom seen. We've not included it in the complete set price due to its scarcity. Those players who were All-American selections are listed below with the year(s) of selection. The Poe (likely Neilson Poe) in the set is a direct descendant of the famous writer Edgar Allan Poe.
