The 1950-51 Bread for Health basketball set consists of 32 bread end labels (each measuring approximately 2 3/4" by 2 3/4") of players in the National Basketball Association. While all the bakeries who issued this set are not at present known, Fisher's Bread in the New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania area and NBC Bread in the Michigan area are two of the bakeries that have been confirmed to date. As with many of the bread label sets of the early '50s, an album to house the set was probably issued. Each label contains the B.E.B. copyright found on so many of the labels of this period. Labels which contain "Bread for Energy" at the bottom are not a part of the set but part of a series of movie, western and sports stars issued during the same approximate time period. The American Card Catalog does not designate a number to this series; however, based on its similarity to a corresponding football issue, it is referenced as D290-15A. The set is dated by the fact that 1949-50 was Buddy Jeanette and Bob Kinney's last active year and Vince Boryla, Tony Lavelli, and Vern Mikkelsen's first active year. [Collapse]
