These cards were distributed in Beckett Baseball Card Monthly issue number 206 (May, 2002 cover date) and issue number 208 (July, 2002 cover date) in an effort to preview the upcoming Donruss Diamond Kings baseball product. These cards were distributed in Beckett Baseball Card Monthly issue number 206 (May, 2002 cover date) and issue number 208 (July, 2002 cover date) in an effort to preview the upcoming Donruss Diamond Kings baseball product. Each magazine was sealed with a clear plastic poly-bag and contained one Diamond Kings sample card (of which was affixed with rubber glue to a subscription offer bound in the middle of the magazine). Ninety percent of the magazines contained basic silver-foil stamped samples and only ten percent of the copies contained these scarce gold-foil versions. The cards are straight parallels of the basic issue 2002 Donruss Diamond Kings issued later that year, but can be readily distinguished by the gold foil "SAMPLE" wording stamped on each card back.
