The 1988 Donruss Athletics Team Book set features 27 cards issued as three pages with nine cards on each page, plus a large full-page puzzle of Stan Musial. The 1988 Donruss Athletics Team Book set features 27 cards issued as three pages with nine cards on each page, plus a large full-page puzzle of Stan Musial. Cards are in full color and are standard size. The set was distributed as a four-page book and thought the puzzle page was perforated, the card pages were not. The cover of the "Team Collection" book is primarily bright red. Card fronts are very similar in design to the 1988 Donruss regular issue. The card numbers on the backs are the same for those players that are the same as in the regular Donruss set, the new players pictured are numbered on the back as "NEW." 1988 A.L. Rookie of the Year Walt Weiss makes his first Donruss appearance in this set as a "NEW" card. The book is usually sold intact. When cut from the book into individual cards, these cards are distinguishable from the regular 1988 Donruss cards since these have a 1988 copyright on the back whereas the regular issue has a 1987 copyright on the back.
