This relatively scarce set was probably issued around 1956 judging by the players included. If this set were produced in 1956, it would provide a possible explanation for the apparent scarcity of the Dale Long pin. Long was a relative unknown until going on his record-setting consecutive game homer-hitting spree in May 1956; perhaps he was a late addition to the set. These pins were supposedly issued as premiums or prizes in one-cent bubblegum machines. Each pin measures approximately 7/8" in diameter.
