The 1947 Signal Oil set of 89 black and white, unnumbered drawings, by Al DeMaree, features Pacific Coast League players from five teams -- Hollywood Stars (1-20), Los Angeles Angels (21-38), Oakland Oaks (39-57), Sacramento Solons (58-73) and Seattle Rainiers (74-89). Numbers are assigned alphabetically within teams. The Sacramento player cards and to a greater extent the Seattle player cards are more difficult to obtain. The highlights of the careers of the players appear on the backgrounds of the cards as cartoons. Four players appear with two teams -- Frank Dasso, Guy Fletcher, Red Mann and Bill Ramsey. Woody Williams is considered quite scarce and Charles Ripple is somewhat less scarce. The catalog designation is UO11. Cards in this set measure approximately 5 1/2" by 3 1/2". [Collapse]
