The cards in this set measure approximately 1 5/8" by 3". Issued in 1916 as a premium offer, the M101-5 set features black and white photos of current ballplayers. Each card is numbered on the front and the backs carry either a blank back or a sponsoring company's information. The fronts are the same as D329, H801-9 and the unclassified Famous and Barr set. Most of the players in this set also appear in the M101-4 set but the majority feature a different card number in both sets. Those cards which are asterisked in the checklist below are those cards which appeared in both the M101-5 and M101-4 sets identically and those have only been cataloged once in their respective M101-5 versions. The M101-5 cards are known to exist in these back variations but not every card has been confirmed to exist in every version: blank back, Block and Kuhl, Famous and Barr, Gimbels (large block letters), Gimbels (small block letters), Herpolsheimer, Holmes to Holmes, Morehouse Baking, Standard Biscuit, and Successful Farming. It is thought that the blank backs, Famous and Barr and Standard Biscuit versions are the most common with Holmes to Homes being the most difficult to find. [Collapse]
