In 1981 Coca-Cola included player's photos underneath Coke caps as part of a redemption contest. Apparently the contest was released around the country (Atlanta, Miami, Green Bay area and Dallas confirmed) using a variety of players in each area. At least three different cap saver sheets were issued for the game in each area. It required the consumer collect Coke, Sprite and/or TAB bottle caps of certain players and attach them to the saver sheets. Sheets 1-3 measure approximately 6 3/8" by 9 1/8" and were divided into three 2 1/8" columns. The top of each column has a hole so that the offer could hang on a soft drink bottle. The first column included a picture of Joe Greene with the quote "Look for me and my friends under caps from Coke and TAB." If one found all seven caps required to complete the yellow middle column, a cash prize of a thousand dollars was awarded. If one completed the five caps required by the third column on the front, the prize was one "Mean" Joe jersey. Finally, the first column on the back required four caps in order to win a player T-shirt. It appears this group always contained four players from the local NFL team. The back also presented official rules for the game. The more difficult caps to find were Steve Fuller and Gene Upshaw from the top two prize levels and one local player from the t-shirt prize level (for example Ed Jones for Dallas). These SPs have not been priced below since it is thought very few exist. Another saver sheet features a grouping of 28-players that had to be completed to be eligible to purchase an NFL t-shirt or Joe Greene replica jersey. Since there were many different bottlers around the country involved in the program, the caps can be found in a number of varieties. Many of the standard bottle cap style can be found in white and/or silver and most, if not all, were issued as twist-off caps. We have checklisted the caps below according to their skip-number and any confirmed additions are appreciated. [Collapse]
