The premier edition of Upper Deck's super-premium SPx basketball set contains 50 cards featuring only the top stars and youngsters in the NBA. The set marked a number of technological "firsts" in the basketball card market including first stand-alone all-Holoview set and first complete, perimeter die cut set. To create the holoview imagery, each athlete was videotaped while rotating on a turntable. The individual frames of videotape were then synthesized to produce a 50-degree, three-dimensional picture. Each card features super premium 32 point thick stock. Each pack contained only one card and carried a suggested retail price of $2.99. Each box contained 36 packs. In addition, to the 50 regular cards, a special Record Breaker card commemorating Michael Jordan's eighth scoring title (1:75 packs) and Tribute card commemorating Anfernee Hardaway's accomplishments in the NBA (1:24 packs) were issued. Also, two separate trade cards were available for signed Jordan and Hardaway cards. The odds of receiving a Jordan trade card were 1:34,560 packs. The Hardaway trade card was more than 25 times easier to pull at a rate of 1,345 packs. The Jordan AU was issued with a card sized certificate of authenticity, and the Upper Deck Authenticated hologram sticker on these cards carries a "BAC" or "BAD" prefix to the serial number.
