In an upcoming issue of Beckett Hockey, we’re looking at legends of the game.

All the notables will be there with Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr.

However, there are few things we want to know from you – the collector.

Hockey fans are passionate about their favorite sport, and collectors are the same way about cards. We want to hear from you. Who are your legends in the making?

Are there players you always put to the side whenever you pull them from a pack? Or do you scour the Internet looking for cards of a certain player?

Of the current players, who do you think is a future legend?

Answer the following questions … we’ll run a selection of the most-interesting answers in the issue.

1. Name, where from and your favorite hockey team?

2. Who are some of your favorite players?

3. If you had to pick one player you think will be a future legend, who would it be and why?

4. Is there one card that you feel will be the iconic card for that particular player?

Please feel free to add more in your comments. Also, feel free to add links to photos of your collection.

As a Lightning fan (currently living in Chicago) I have to throw Steven Stamkos’ name out there. 60 goals last year, 3 straight 90+ point seasons and one of the hardest workers in the league, and he is only 22 years old.

I guess his iconic card would be the 2008-09 The Cup Patch Auto Rookie card. It’s probably not in the price range of a lot collectors, but it’s seen plenty of time on the Beckett Hot List.

I am from Sudbury Ontario . Hockeyland. My favourite team is the Washington Capitals. But i am very intrigued with the Edmonton Oilers. Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent Hopkins are going to be compared to Gretzky and Kurri for the rest of their careers. If it wasn’t for inuries this season Hopkins would have won the calder and these two should threaten for the scoring title in the next couple of years. Insane skills. Once the rest of the team catches up look for them(along with hall)to be the first line in hockey to flirt with a triple crown in a long long time.
Eberles’ ud young guns rc holding his stick in the air in celebration and acknowledgement to his teammates is a sight we are going to see repeated many time per season every season for the next 20 years. This team is a dynasty waiting to happen. Any card companies paying attention to this should note -DYNASTY- is that a theme or what.

    1. Kelly T, South Florida. My favorite teams are the Florida Panthers and the Minnesota Wild
    2. Dmitry Kulikov, Kris Versteeg, Zach Parise
    3. That’s a hard question. I guess if you don’t already consider Crosby a legend, then him. Otherwise of the players that have come up the past few years or so, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is pretty awesome.
    4. Nugent-Hopkins Young Guns card. My best ever pull from retail!

  4. Matthew 8 August, 2012 at 20:19

    1. Matthew – South Florida (Favorite Team: NY Rangers)
    2. Favorite Players: Henrik Lundqvist & Ryan McDonagh,
    3. Future Legend: Henrik Lundqvist – 30 Wins In First 7 NHL Seasons Record, Vezina Trophy, Olympic Gold Medal, Hart Trophy Nominee, and Will Eventually Hold Every NY Rangers Goaltending Record.
    4. Card Choice: 2005/06 The Cup Auto Patch RC#177

  5. Doug C 8 August, 2012 at 21:00

    1. Doug C, from beautiful Muskoka Ontario, fan of the Penguins, Bruins and Senators.
    2. Sidney Crosby, Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Toews and Eric Karlsson.
    3. One player to be a future legend, you would have to go with the pure goal scoring talent of Steven Stamkos. However, don’t forget about Teemu Selanne, while he is nearing the end of his career, his numbers match any of the great legendary scorers.
    4. One great card in my collection, a Sidney Crosby RC. I am lucky enough to have pulled the 2004-05 SP Authentic redemption RC (RR#24 / 399). Iconic and Sweet!

    1. Name, where from and your favorite hockey team?
luke aka blacksheep217 from sacramento, ca… favorite team… san jose sharks.

    2. Who are some of your favorite players?
my favorite player is logan couture. i also have a pretty extensive and growing pc of him. check it out here: http://s245.photobucket.com/albums/gg47/ledeuxieme/hockey%20card%20pc/logan%20couture/

    3. If you had to pick one player you think will be a future legend, who would it be and why?
i hope couture becomes a future legend. the sharks have always been a team so close but so far from the stanley cup. it’d be awesome if couture helps the sharks bring the cup to san jose for the first time. couture is a great all around player and is also a smart hockey player. he may not be the fastest or most skilled, but he definitely uses his brain to get things done on the ice. he has scored 30 goals in each of the past two seasons which is great considering the great players around him. san jose fans could make this guy a legend if he delivers on the ice like he has been doing since his rookie season in 09/10.

    4. Is there one card that you feel will be the iconic card for that particular player?
couture’s yg has to be his most iconic card. the photo is decent and the young gun design that year was pretty unique – sort of a quasi-futuristic thing going on. young gun cards always are a big hit when a player’s hobby interest rises.

    4. Is there one card that you feel will be the iconic card for that particular player?
    his YG rookie card

  8. Leslie 14 August, 2012 at 13:26

    1. Name, where from and your favorite hockey team?

Leslie Monteiro . Fort Lee, NJ and I love the Flyers

    2. Who are some of your favorite players?
Claude Giroux, Chris Pronger, Wayne Simmonds, Steve Stamkos

    3. If you had to pick one player you think will be a future legend, who would it be and why?

Claude Giroux. This guy has a flair for the moments. He always score big goals for the Flyers. He gets better and better every year. He is a young guy who will be great for the next 10 years. He will lead the Flyers to a Stanley Cup one day.

    4. Is there one card that you feel will be the iconic card for that particular player?

    No clue

  9. Howie Sussman 14 August, 2012 at 13:29

Howie diehard NYR fan since i was 6

I have loads of favorites from all over the league going back years.

Lundqvist, i have always been partial to goalies and hes on the verge of breaking every NYR record that has been set by Giacomin and Richter.

His rookie card is probably worth getting my hands on.

  10. Brian 15 August, 2012 at 08:58

Brian from Michigan. Die hard Red Wings fan.

Favorite hockey player growing up was Brett Hull.

Future legends of the game I would say are Steven Stamkos for his goal scoring ability (a lot like Hull), ans also Jonathan Toews for his leadership, the way he plays the game and handles himself.

  11. Micah 15 August, 2012 at 16:13

    Micah From Winnipeg Manitoba
    1. From Manitoba But a Die Hard Preds Fan and Collector
    2. Craig Smith, Shea Weber, Ovi, PK Subban, Pekka Rinne.
    3. Future Legends of this era would be hard if you take out the super highly rated players, I think Subban will be the Habs player of this decade if he continues to be the player he is and grows. Pekka Rinne will be the next great Goalie, however the smaller market of Nashville makes it hard for him to compete with players like Lundqvist and even in the past Thomas and Brodeur.

Player to keep an eye on Jeff Skinner, Jamie Benn, and Ryan Ellis

  12. Mark Grof 17 August, 2012 at 09:26

1.From orlando flroida tampa bay lightning fan for 20 years!

    2.Steve Stamkos,Brett Connolly,Victor Hedman

3.Steve Stamkos not only because of his goal scoring but also for helping bring hockey back to the south where it is not as popular. Since stamkos brought highlihgts.goals, sport center top 10 plays to tampa not only has our fan base become more die hard but are city and state have all started to peek at the hockey hightlights. In my eyes this will give steven stamkos the legend tag for what he does for the team, for the sport and for the sunshine state!

4.Everyone will be chasing his cup rc but that is for the high end collectors. My personal favorite card would be this pack pulled trilogy gem I sent to be graded and the 10 will tell u how perfect it was.

However for a hof only collector this should be the card
