Since making his MLB debut, the prospect of Yoan Moncada Rookie Cards became reality. Not only is he a player with tons of potential, but he was going to rise to stardom playing for one of the most high profile teams in baseball, the Boston Red Sox.

And then Yoan Moncada was traded.

Now a member of the Chicago White Sox and a cornerstone of their future, that doesn’t change the outlook on Moncada’s potential. He’s still touted as a future star. And as far as Yoan Moncada Rookie Cards and other early cards go, the change in teams shouldn’t alter his hobby outlook too much. Granted, the White Sox aren’t quite as popular as Boston on a global scale but they’re not exactly a small market team, either.

Moncada’s first cards came out in 2015 courtesy of Panini and Leaf. Topps held off until 2016 for his first MLB cards. Rookie Cards can be found in 2017 products.

We’ve got a full breakdown of the Yoan Moncada Rookie Cards as well as details on many of his other important early cards.

2017 Donruss Yoan Moncada RC #31

Panini’s first baseball release of the year, 2017 Donruss Baseball, is also one of their brands with the most tradition and history in the sport. Moncada is featured in the Rated Rookie subset towards the start of the checklist. It’s a short print but given the product’s widespread distribution, it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Parallels: Cyan Back, Gray Border (/199), Press Proof Gold (/99), Aqueous Test Proof (/49), Pink Border (/25), Artist’s Proof (/10), Press Proof (/5), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

2017 Topps Yoan Moncada RC #210

Included in 2017 Topps Series 1, this could end up being the only Yoan Moncada Rookie Card with him in a Red Sox uniform. He has plenty of other cards with the team, but with his trade to Chicago, it will be primarily White Sox cards going forward.

This is a card that may not carry the most value, but it’s from flagship Topps. That means a couple of things. The first is history and continuity with baseball cards in general. The second is that supply shouldn’t be an issue. Topps Series 1 not only kicks off the new baseball card season but, traditionally, it’s also the year’s most readily available.

In addition to the regular Yoan Moncada Rookie Card, he has a scarce variation short print where he’s wearing a red jersey instead of the dark blue one.

Parallels: Negative Black and White, Purple, Rainbow Foil, Gold (/2017), Vintage Stock (/99), Black (/66), Father’s Day Blue (/50), Mother’s Day Pink (/50), Memorial Day Camo (/25), Clear (/10), Platinum (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

2017 Topps Yoan Moncada Rookie Card

2017 Topps Heritage Yoan Moncada RC #117

Taking from 1968 Topps, Moncada’s 2017 Topps Heritage card not only comes with a burlap border but it pairs him up with fellow rookie, Carson Fulmer. This is the first pack-inserted card with Moncada sporting a White Sox uniform.

For those preferring something with just the second baseman, there is a variation that has just Moncada.

Parallels: Chrome Purple Refractors, Chrome (/999), Chrome Refractors (/568), Chrome Blue Refractors (/68), Blue (Print Run: 50), Yellow Back (Print Run: 25), Chrome Gold Refractors (/5), Flip Stock (Print Run: 5), Chrome Superfractors (1/1)

2017 Topps Opening Day Yoan Moncada RC #74

For most cards in 2017 Topps Opening Day Baseball, they’re just like their regular 2017 Topps cards only with the added logo on the front and a different number on the back. Moncada is different. Topps was able to get him into the set in a White Sox uniform, creating something distinct from his earlier card. While it still won’t give it a lot of value, it’s a change that should make this card more appealing.

Parallels: Opening Day Edition Blue Foil, Opening Day 1/1 Edition (1/1), Printing Plates Black (1/1), Printing Plates Cyan (1/1), Printing Plates Magenta (1/1), Printing Plates Yellow (1/1)

Key Yoan Moncada Prospect and Pre-Rookie Cards

2015 Elite Extra Edition Prospect Autographs Yoan Moncada #1

2015 Elite Extra Edition Baseball kept its prospect focus, ample autographs and numerous parallels. It also brightened up its look significantly. The Yoan Moncada Prospect Autograph benefits from the new design as well as the on-card signature.

2015 Greenville Drive Choice Yoan Moncada #1

Minor league cards are a bit of a lost art today. Outside of Topps Pro Debut and Heritage Minor League, there doesn’t seem to be nearly the same proliferation of releases as there once was. The 2015 Greenville Choice Yoan Moncada was part of a team set sold by the Single-A team at their team shop. Because it was aimed primarily at the local market, it’s likely the print run was on the low side.

2015 Immaculate Collection Immaculate Autograph Jumbo Materials Yoan Moncada #10 /25

Immaculate is near the top of Panini’s high-end portfolio. Moncada has a few cards on the 2015 Immaculate Baseball checklist, although they’re all on the rare side. The Immaculate Autograph Jumbo Materials card come with a larger-than-average jersey swatch plus a signature that’s done on a sticker. Moncada has another autograph card in the product that has a pair of smaller swatches.

2015 Leaf 25th Yoan Moncada Autographs – Clear Acetate, Metal, Pure Glass

2015 Leaf 25th is a tribute of sorts to 1990 Leaf Baseball. The cards are designed to look like throwbacks but with a couple of major twists. First, they’re signed. Also, they’re printed on three different premium-style stocks. Clear comes on acetate, Metal is chromium and Pure Glass is on a thick plexiglass. Although not numbered, the base Clear Grey version has a print run of 56 copies. The Metal card is a little more plentiful but still rare at 83 copies. The 2015 Leaf 25th Pure Glass Yoan Moncada autograph comes in at 77 copies.

2015 Leaf Best of Baseball Autographs Yoan Moncada #YM01-YM09

The big draw in 2015 Leaf Best of Baseball is the high-end repurchased card. However, each box also came with a Yoan Moncada card. Some are signed, some are not. There are nine different Yoan Moncada autographs in the product, each with a handful of parallels.

2015 Leaf Metal Draft Yoan Moncada Autograph #BAYM1

2015 Leaf Metal Draft is another early chrome-style Yoan Moncada autograph. However, instead of drawing inspiration from 1990, it comes with its own design. It may not have a lot of design elements, but the signature is on-card and the background pops thanks to the Prismatic finish and outlined etching. Like other chromium releases, there are several color-based parallels. The one-of-one Super Prismatic version, which was graded a 10 by BGS, sold for $1,525 on eBay on January 27, 2017.

2015 Leaf Trinity Yoan Moncada Autographs – Trinity Autograph, Patch Autograph, Pure Autographs

Like Leaf 25th, Yoan Moncada has three different autographs in 2015 Leaf Trinity. Each it totally different, though, not just different spins on similar designs. Trinity cards are designed to have added premium upgrades. Trinity Autographs are inscribed. It looks as though all say, “Go Red Sox!” along with the signature. Patch Autographs have a large, multi-color swatch from a jersey worn by Moncada. Finally, there’s the acetate Pure autograph.

2015 Leaf Ultimate Draft Yoan Moncada Autograph #BAYM1

The 2015 Leaf Ultimate Draft Yoan Moncada autograph takes a more simple approach. But that doesn’t mean it’s not premium. The card stock is thick, the signature is on-card and the foil is bold without overtaking everything else on the front. The card was inserted in packs as a redemption although there wasn’t much of a delay. Cards are live.

In addition to the regular base signature, Moncada also has another Clear autograph acetate card. It was also a redemption.

2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs Yoan Moncada #CPAYM

Other cards may be worth more, but the 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autographs Yoan Moncada is his key card. In the modern hobby, it’s a benchmark against which others, including Rookie Cards, are measured. In most instances, first Bowman Chrome autographs with players in a MLB uniform are what collectors gravitate towards. Moncada’s card is found in packs of 2016 Bowman Baseball.

2016 Bowman Chrome Yoan Moncada Autograph

2016 Bowman Chrome Prospects Yoan Moncada #BCP148

Not everyone can afford or even wants autographs. So as far as unsigned early Yoan Moncada cards go, this is a big one. This and its regular Bowman counterpart, both of which are in 2016 Bowman Baseball, are his first regular MLB cards. Neither carry a big price tag. Even if he breaks out in a big way, these will remain relatively affordable as well.

2016 Bowman Inception Prospect Autographs Yoan Moncada #PAYM

The 2016 Bowman Inception Yoan Moncada autograph should appeal more to those who like bolder designs. Printed on thick card stock, there’s a premium feel. The hard-signed nature of the card also helps. Another plus is the fact that it’s cheaper than Bowman Chrome.

2016 Bowman Platinum Top Prospects Autographs Yoan Moncada #TPAYM

2016 Bowman Platinum returned after the brand took a year’s break. However, this time around distribution was limited to Walmart. It was still readily available but some collectors may have missed out if they didn’t have access to a local store. Unlike the other main 2016 Bowman brand Moncada autographs, this one is on a sticker.

2016 Bowman’s Best Best of 2016 Autographs Yoan Moncada #B16YM

Since returning in 2015, Bowman’s Best has been about mixing veterans and prospects — even more so than the primary Bowman and Bowman Chrome sets. This is most apparent in the autographs. This Moncada autograph is hard signed and done on chromium stock, both similar to Bowman Chrome. But the design here is a little brighter and colorful. It’s also a more affordable alternative.

Glad you had a photo of Moncada’s 2017 Donruss card here. I’m putting together a Boston Red Sox team set, and every checklist I looked at (including your own database) has his RR card from Donruss picturing him with Chicago, which is obviously not the case.

I just can’t get past the pre-rookie cards showing him in a Boston uni – this is where it hurts to have MLB-licensed pre-rookie cards…

    I prefer MiLB-licensed or even non-licensed to MLB-licensed here.
