2011 Topps Series 1 Baseball Sparkle Variations

The first boxes of 2011 Topps Series 1 Baseball have been ripped and the first reports of oddball findings are coming in, too.

The most notable previously unannounced finds are cards that have the twinkle or sparkle of a diamond digitally placed into the photograph of the card.

Topps reps are officially mum on the issue but cards confirmed to have this variation (so far) include: Roy Halladay, Derek Jeter, Ichiro Suzuki, Chipper Jones, Aroldis Chapman, Chris Carpenter, Mariano Rivera, Miguel Cabrera, Brent Morel, Alex Rios, Kyle Drabek, Jared Weaver, Justin Upton, Victor Martinez, Brian Matusz, Ubaldo Jimenez, Roy Oswalt, Jose Bautista, Justin Morneau, Brett Anderson, Desmond Jennings, Tommy Hunter and Chase Utley.

Given some of the names on the list, it might be an SP set that parallels all 330 cards in the set. However, they won’t be found easily. Brent Williams, an Arkansas-based dealer who specializes in breaking cases in bulk, has seen the cards fall one per case.

He pulled six through his first six cases and that held true for another breaker he is in contact with.

“I know of 22 other cases that each had 21 total,” he said.

The cards are also found in retail packs.

Update: These cards have been confirmed.

DIAMOND CARDS! It seems that these cards are roughly 1:432 packs or 1 per case…what are some Topps cards from 2010 baseball that have roughly the same hobby pack odds. I want to gauge the value. Thanks for any help.

Bought 4 Hobby boxes and landed the Joey Votto Sparkle SP. The diamond sparkle is on his helmet. I was pretty happy with that. I would trade it for the Chase Utley one in a heartbeat though

DIAMOND GIVEAWAY SET – a question..

I have the 660 card giveaway prize set from Topps.
The box has a different design. Is there any difference in the cards?
Or, are they identical to the “regular” factory sets?
I read that there was a different foil stamp, “exclusive to this set”, is that true?

I also have read that people have been waiting long for the delivery of their set. Not me. I’m in NY, Topps shipped it from Delaware. 3 days after ordering.

Guess I’ll have to look through the mass of 2011 topps I have, didn’t know about the sparkle cards. What’s funny, is that I hit like zero decent inserts, and the two I hit were the SAME player & card, a game jersey from I believe it’s Marlon Byrd. Good gosh!!
First Topps I ever bought were from a machine, like the stickers & “tattoos” are in, in supermarkets & whatnot. They were a penny each, and the year was 1957. I was 9.
And now I can go sit and ask myself why I’ve been a Pittsburg Pirate fan for 51 years..

    Thankyou, good hunting!
