When Geni Chavez brought her husband a Christmas present this past year, she didn’t realize it would turn into one of the best presents Manny Chavez ever received.

Chavez received a few boxes of cards for the holiday, a typical assortment for any collector. In the stash was a box of 2008 TriStar Futures, a product with a grand prize of a Babe Ruth signed baseball.

“When I opened the box all I saw was Congratulations,” said Chavez from El Paso, Texas. “My thought was a great redemption then I continued reading and it said, ‘You have found the grand treasure.’”

Chavez pulled the coveted grand prize, which was a replica of the baseball with Babe Ruth’s name in gold lettering. When he read the fine print, Chavez saw he had six days to fulfill the redemption. It expired on Dec. 31, 2010.

He had to mail in the ball and certificate to claim his prize. Chavez sent in the items overnight and on Feb. 10, 2011, he received the Ruth baseball.

“I will never forget the FedEx truck pulling up outside knowing my Babe Ruth ball was there,” Chavez said. “I’m finally a proud owner of a Babe Ruth signed baseball.”

Chavez doesn’t have any particular collection. He just loves ripping wax. This time it paid off as he got one of the ultimate prizes a collector can get out of a box.

Chavez also plans on letting his wife pick all the boxes from now on.

He also received an Alfonso Soriano printing plate and a Jason Heyward autographed minor league jersey in his Christmas stash.

“Guess my wife really knows how to pick them,” he said.

Cool story Sooz! and the Heyward isn’t anything to sneeze at either! Congrats sir!

Quick tip from a fellow auto collector, make sure to add it on to your home/rent insurance. Alot of times your regular policy won’t cover it for nearly what it’s really worth.

If I had known the contents in that box I was delivering, I would of kicked my own a** and claimed I was robbed at gunpoint!!!!!!!!!! Meanwhile, I would be calling collect from Jail, begging someone to bail me out!!!!!!!! Worth a shot!
