With Topps set to release card #500 of its MLB Living Set this week, we thought we would take a crack of who could be considered for that noteworthy card.

Since the print-to-order set debuted in 2017, its dedicated collectors have been wondering when they will see Lou Gehrig. After all, Babe Ruth was card #100 way back in October 2018. Where is his Murderers’ Row teammate? Topps presumably has a licensing deal for Gehrig as he has appeared in several recent sets.

Could he be card #500?

Or will it be someone else?

Here are just a few other names that have not yet appeared in the Living Set, but could be considered for #500:

  • Josh Gibson
  • Joe DiMaggio
  • Sandy Koufax
  • Satchel Paige
  • Walter Johnson
  • Mike Schmidt
  • Tom Seaver
  • Cy Young
  • Warren Spahn
  • Christy Mathewson
  • Oscar Charleston
  • Frank Robinson
  • Mel Ott
  • Reggie Jackson
  • Steve Carlton

Again, just a partial list, but several names to speculate on who will be tagged as card #500.

As far as I can recall, there weren’t any Frank Robinson cards in Project2020 or Project70, and I can’t recall any recent Robinson cards in other Topps sets. It appears Topps doesn’t have the rights to him.
