Update (June 21): This product is now scheduled for a July 3 release and will arrive with licensing/approval from the Major League Baseball Players Association, according to an announcement from the company.

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

The next Upper Deck baseball set is coming soon — as in next week.

This year’s SP Signature Edition will arrive on May 1 with what the company is touting as “the best lineup of living baseball players ever offered in one product.”

Each box will carry a suggested retail price of $255 with three three-card packs and a total of nine autographed cards inside. There will be two single-signed cards and one card with multiple sigs per pack. In some cases, the company said, there will be as many as eight signatures per card.

Of course, without a league license or players association deals for baseball, the cards are likely to be without photos or logos — and no card images have been released in advance of this fast-tracked product, which will include six boxes per case. (Want a checklist or OPG for past Signature Edition sets? Click here.)

Upper Deck’s preview information stated that there will be 50 different Hall of Famers included in this one as well as multi-signed cards for World Champions (1946-now), Hall of Famer combos from the Classes of 1972, 2007 and 1991 (get out your history books to figure out those), cards for members of the 3,000-hit club, 500-home run club and more.

Single-signed cards will include retired players, active players prospects and more, while there also will be manufactured patch autographed cards in the mix, too, with players grouped by team, Hall of Fame enshrinement, nationality and more.

No images, no mention of players by name, and a rushed product announced only a week before the street date? This smells like a “sticker dump.”

Hmm. Sounds like a fail to me.
It’s either going to be stickers or really bad shape “cuts” or a combo of the two.
And, if Beckett has no pics I’m guessing it safe to say they are not going to be
    encapsulated.

Or, perhaps they are clearing out their back stock. You know, stuff that was so
supposed to be redeemed with redemption cards or extras in stock for replacement.

Sales sheet from my distributer said everything is all sticker autographs. So that meens no cuts. And when I read Prospects thats when I said im not ordering. I bet it will be the same Prospects thats in World of Sports that no one wants. The ones that sell for .99 cents on Ebay.

I wish I would’ve saved those e-mails from Upper Crap……I mean Upper Deck; where Rich argued with me on some point (and at the time….never quite got-why he even took time off his throne to talk to me ????). I’m laughing with each & every article and how this once inspiring company….HAS SCREWED PRETTY MUCH EVERY COLLECTOR OVER & has now gotten/getting lawssuits from so many……..LOL
I knew this was coming…..just took longer than I anticipated…………LOL

and the replies I glanced at on here……I love the one or ones that tell the “buy this now & I willl gladly re-pay you on Tuesday” …only difference is, no hamburgers…………….LOL-LOL

let me say i’m no big fan of Upper Deck, so this in no way is a defence, that said people have been saying this about upper deck for a while know, and they are still here, i not sure if these post are from real collectors or maybe ex employees, some stuff clamed like has not been in office 6 weeks, emails between a top exce and just some rodom collector, well thats for you to decide. its no different than Panini doing the same, just compair there Limited, pack full of prospects with a spinkling of no Uniform no team pros, and retired players. its like Leaf using stickers and calling them cuts yes look at some of there cut product,. it is what it is. buy what you want, you are the collector, support what you are looking for, these people can say what they want, and i do agree upper deck did a lot of shady stuff, and i don’t buy there or panini’s baseball because i don’t like seeing or should i say not seeing uniforms or team logos, to me this is not a baseball card, its just a card with someones picture, i was always told baseball was a team sport, and i took that to heart. someday these card companys will get it i hope, what goes around will come around, and it will be ugly!!!!

Lots of naysayers out there. There are a few leaked photos (probably UD employees) and from what I have heard from an insider (high degree of reliability) this product is going to be loaded with premium content. Welcome back UD
