Upper Deck divulges plans for National
By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Media
As we get closer to the 2015 National Sports Collectors Convention, trading card companies are getting ready to reveal details about their redemption programs and booth activities and Upper Deck has beat them all to the punch in letting collectors know what they can expect in Chicago from July 29 to August 2.
For their redemption program, the company is bringing back Prominent Cuts and the set will focus on sports and entertainment personalities. Participating collectors will not only be able to easily finish the set due to its availability throughout the show, but they could pull some limited autograph cards or even one of six one-of-one cut signature cards depicting a deceased Chicago sports legend.
What else does Upper Deck have planned for the National? Find out after the jump.
In order to receive a pack of Prominent Cuts, collectors in attendance will only need to buy five packs of 2014-15 Fleer Showcase, 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum, 2014-15 Upper Deck Masterpieces, 2014-15 SP Authentic Hockey, 2015 Goodwin Champions or 2015 Upper Deck Dinosaurs from a certified Diamond dealer at the show. Those that choose to break 2014-15 SP Game-Used or 2014-15 UD Premier will receive three packs of Prominent Cuts. Upper Deck plans to run this program beginning at 10:00 a.m. on July 30 and it will only be available while supplies last. Collectors are limited to participating in the redemption program a maximum of four times per day.
Upper Deck is also making every effort to help out case breakers and those buying a sealed case of 2014-15 Fleer Showcase, 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum, 2014-15 UD Premier, 2014-15 SP Authentic Hockey, or 2015 Goodwin Champions will be able to skip the line and receive 10 Prominent Cuts packs and a raffle ticket that will be eligible for such items as a Prominent Cuts VIP Autograph card, a premium hobby pack or box, or a memorabilia item. This offer is only available to the first 75 collectors breaking a case at the booth.
Even if a collector is not looking to crack a case at the show, they can get in on all the action by winning a free spot in a break of 2014-15 UD Premier. Spots will be given out in a raffle on the Thursday night of the show and the case will be broken the next day at 2:00 p.m. at the Case Breaker Pavilion.
Those attending the show that purchased a VIP ticket should check their bags for a five-card set Upper Deck has produced exclusively for them. The collection includes Tiger Woods, Jonathan Toews, Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, and Jerome Bettis. There will also be plenty of opportunities for show visitors to obtain some free Upper Deck prizes through regular raffles (held each day except Friday), an expired redemption raffle (held on Saturday at 11:00), and Friday’s Random Acts of Kindness Scavenger Hunt. The company will hide 25 envelopes throughout the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and those wishing to participate can find clues at the Upper Deck booth.
Finally, Diamond Club members and candidates will also be invited to attend a private reception on August 1. If a collector is interested in becoming a member, they can check with a Diamond Dealer at the show to receive more details.
