Upper Deck Brings CFL Players, Author to Toronto Expo
By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Hockey Editor
The 48th Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo is less than 48 hours away, but Upper Deck has added even more to attract collectors to their booth by announcing that three CFL players and Ken Reid, author of Hockey Card Stories, will be making appearances during the three-day extravaganza in Toronto.
There will be plenty of collectors at the show who are fans of the Canadian Football League and due to the response from hobbyists to the set, it makes sense that they bring in a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and two players from the Toronto Argonauts to participate in free signing sessions.
Which players will be appearing at the Expo? Find out after the jump.
The first CFL player to stop by the Upper Deck booth will be defensive lineman Brian Bulcke, who presently stars for Hamilton. Now in his fourth season, the former San Francisco 49ers practice squad member has recorded 17 tackles and two sacks thus far it 2014. His appearance takes place from 5:00 to 6:00 on Friday, November 7.
On Saturday, Toronto Argos veteran center Jeff Keeping is signing at the booth from 2:00 to 3:00. He has spent all but one of his professional seasons with the team and won the Leo Dandurand Trophy as the East Division’s Most Outstanding Lineman during his all-star 2013 campaign.
Finally, the free football player signings come to a close on Sunday with linebacker Shea Emry, who joined the Argos for the 2014 season after six years in a Montreal Alouettes uniform, doling out autographs to the public from 2:00 to 3:00. Not only is he a two-time Grey Cup champion, but he was also awarded the James P. McCaffrey as the East’s Outstanding Defensive Player in 2012.
Reid, who is an anchor for Rogers Sportsnet, will also be making an appearance at the Upper Deck booth on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30 and copies of the book will be on sale for $20. Beckett recently reviewed Hockey Card Stories and collectors are sure to appreciate the opportunity to speak with Reid about his book and his passion for vintage hockey cards.
