Union Arena Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition TCG Checklist and Set Details
“Good news” for TCG fans, Union Arena Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition is awesome. The success of the Japanese Evangelion series of graphic novels, movies, and anime, make their way onto the tabletop focusing on the franchise’s 30 years of cinema. With new artwork created specifically for the release, fans get a feel of nostalgia and of something new, packed with action.

The Evangelion Backstory
If a Union Arena fan first, the New Theatrical Edition has a foundation that begins in 1994 with Neon Genesis Evangelion. Since the initial release, a trilogy and a tetralogy have followed. Off the namesake, Neon Genesis Evangelion Theatrical Edition, there are 26 total episodes that feed into the storyline.
The actual storyline runs with a popular theme, postapocalyptic survival for humans (NERV) fighting the enemy (Angels) with the aid of robot warfare (Evangelions/EVA). Beyond survival of humans after a meteor impact and the rise of a new species, the Evangelion plotlines delve deeper into the psychology of man and the meaning(s) of life creating interest outside of the sci-fi action genre.
Characters
Pouring over the cards, if not familiar with the manga, anime, and/or movies, the characters largely pull from the tetralogy:

If a die-hard fan, 20 new illustrations made specifically for the TCG release give a fresh take on beloved characters and events.
The Chase
Foil and alt-art cards in the TCG universe are a given chase, and this set has them. Another highlight in this release, three-star serial-numbered cards are what collectors want. Just 100 of each have been released.
The other must-haves are the six foil Action Point cards.
