Coming out of the University of Michigan, there was no hype or buzz surrounding Tom Brady before the 2000 NFL Draft or after the New England Patriots selected the California native in the sixth round with the 199th overall pick. By 2004, there were no GOAT conversations about Brady or NFL Most Valuable Player considerations, but all of that was about to change.

As is with collecting, if you knew then what you know now, how badly would you want the pictured 2004 Topps Super Bowl Ticket Tom Brady signed memorabilia piece?

Brady had to wait his turn with the Wolverines and then platooned starting and playing time with Drew Henson during his senior year. In his first season with the Patriots, Brady attempted just three passes completing one for six yards.

A backup for Drew Bledsoe in 2000 and to start the 2001 season, Brady got his opportunity to shine named the starter by Game 3 after Bledsoe suffered an injury against the New York Jets. Brady threw for 2,843 yards with 18 touchdowns in 2001 and took a big next step forward in 2002 tossing the pigskin around for 3,764 yards with 28 scores by air, which led the league.

Conversations on Brady’s growing talented grew immensely when the Pats downed the St. Louis Rams 20-17 in Super Bowl XXXVI on Feb. 3, 2002. While U2 rocked the halftime show, at the end of the game Brady took home his first Super Bowl MVP honors.

The Patriots missed Super Bowl XXXVII watching Buccaneers take out the Raiders 48-21.

During the 2003 season, Brady threw for 3,620 yards with 23 touchdowns. New England got off to a slow start, 2-2, but won 12 straight winning a league high 14 games that season.

On Feb. 1, 2004, at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, Brady earned his second of five Super Bowl MVP honors taking down the Carolina Panthers 32-29.

A back-and-forth battle on the field with both teams doing all their scoring in the second and fourth quarters, scored tied at 29, Brady led his team to victory. With 1:08 left in the game, Brady completed five passes setting up a 41-yard Adam Vinatieri field goal.

Brady was 32-of-48 passing for 354 yards with three passing touchdowns.

The pictured 2004 Topps Super Tix Autographed #STATB Tom Brady is an actual stub from the game with Brady’s signature in blue ink. On May 16, the relic sold for $1,647 during a Heritage Auction.
