The card companies didn’t take long to get Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow into their respective new uniforms.

Topps released card images that will appear in 2012 Bowman, which will arrive in May.

Manning is in navy and orange for the Denver Broncos and Tebow with a white jersey and green pants for his new team, the New York Jets.

These cards will be short-prints.

Panini released an image of Tebow in a Jets uniform on Wednesday.

“It’s important to capture the sport accurately, which is why we’re doing everything we can to get the players in their new uniforms,” Topps Vice President Mark Sapir told The Associated Press. “Literally, as soon as the Tebow announcement was made, there were emails made back and forth, doing everything as quickly as we can to make sure we get that card for football fans.”

Although I commend them for their efforts on getting the players in their new uni’s, the photos look like they were meant for the old Topps Gallery set, or some other “art card” issue. I wish they’d release the cards as is, on their former teams, and have a variation from their press conference with their new team as some sort of SP. Might fit base Topps better than Bowman, but it’d definitely spark collectors interest, both good and bad. Just a thought.

One problem… the Broncos are not wearing the blue anymore, they are going back to orange jerseys as the primary colors next season

the NFL Players Union has no pull with their members, huh? You’d think for high profile changes, the union could go to bat for the licensees and request a photoshoot session after the press conference or the day after where photogs could at least get shots of the athlete in their new teams’ jersey top in a training camp-like scenario doing fake runs, fake passes, signing autos for the fans, etc.
